(CNN) Democrats’ flip in California concludes final unresolved US House race

The contest was the last unresolved House race in the country, and with Gray’s victory, Republicans won 220 seats to Democrats’ 215. Overall, Democrats gained one seat from their pre-election total.
The margin will be even slimmer in early 2025 with three vacancies due to Trump’s Cabinet picks.
If all three seats are vacant at once, a 217-215 majority would mean that Republicans couldn’t afford to lose a single member on a party-line vote.

With the final federal election tally in, it appears Republicans actually lost seats in the People's House.

With Trump not even getting half the popular vote, only 1-1/2 pts over Harris, and only besting his losing 2020 performance by a bit over 3%, I'm at an absolute loss to understand the vociferous claims of a "mandate".

How can there be a mandate, when the majority of the electorate voted against the candidate?

Oh well . . .

Well, when Democrats get to count the votes, and especially when they get to "rehabilitate" them, one can expect those vote tallies to swing their way. :coffee:

Good news. It weakens the hold the GOP has on the house.

Clearly Republicans, literally the most corrupt political organization on Earth, should be counting all the votes.

You need to bring evidence of the fraud you're implying, dear sir.

Yeah...it only took them a month and a lot of hard work by people like Pelosi's daughter to scrounge up enough votes to flip a bunch of races from Rep to Dem.

I think vociferous claims of a mandate are only unintelligible if we assume they are being made in good faith by serious people.

Instead, they're being made by people who are happy to do any evil and justify it with some form of "that didn't happen! You lie! But if it did happen, you made us do it!" Of course they'll claim a mandate where none exists.

I recall a thread about police slashing tires, some of journalists, and I believe it was near a BLM protest. The person you responded to said there was no evidence of this. Photos and videos were then posted of cops slashing tires. Nope, still not evidence, he said.

I am not in the least bit surprised that he would claim that if a vote count takes a while or if it's a recount, and a Democrat wins, that means it was rigged.

They could even claim an election win, where none existed!

If this is your way of saying the Dems have a better local ground-game, you're right. Perhaps Republicans should step-up their game, if they want to be competitive?

And yes, it took hard work. A lot of hard work! I've done street-level GOTV back in the day.

Keep counting until you get the right answer.

Wrong forum.

Keep counting until you get the right answer.

That's the way it works. At least until the legislated deadline for counting is reached.

We aren't talking about GOTV.

Most states leave it up to the voter to cure their vote if they want to and they don't allow a month to get it done.

What are you implying by the bolded? Are you implying voting fraud?

And yes, curing is part of the GOTV effort. That's the whole idea - get out the vote!

Glad to see it only took a month for enough D votes to be harvested to push Grey over the top.

Why the focus on the popular vote? It is not relevant.

When was the last time there was a true "mandate"? How would that be defined?

Even Obama only had 52% of the popular vote. Clinton had a plurality of even less than Trump.

312 to 223 is quite a large margin. 30 states to 20 states. 50% more states than Harris. The largest in quite some time. Some might call winning so many states a "mandate".
