How can covid be transmitted from humans to deer and back?.
Well the researchers of the study do not know exactly the mechanism.
However.
1. Some of the study was on captive deer i.e. deer farms where humans would be in close proximity to deer since they are treated like livestock.
Transmission to wild deer could be from escapees or from " through the fence" transmission or from waste water.
2. Covid can survive in waste water and regular water for days. Deer can live in close proximity to humans and so a faulty sewage line that leaks into a stream could be a source for human to deer.
Conversely humans wading /swimming/fishing in a pond that deer frequent could be transmission.
3. Transmission could be from hunting as well. Cleaning a deer could result in blood..or feces or other fluids on the hands and then inadvertent transmission.
Consuming venison would not seem a way as venison is generally cooked and that would kill the virus.
