(CNN) California Democrats approve Newsom’s redistricting plan after Texas House passes GOP-drawn maps
--
Taken together, the package of bills backed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom will ask voters to replace the state’s current congressional maps with new ones aimed at netting Democrats five US House seats.
--
It appears, as promised, Gavin Newsom has gotten his Congressional redistricting bills through the California State Legislature, putting the initiative before the voters on 4 NOV.

It's now in the hands of the voters . . .

We will see. Did Gavin put the high speed rail folks in charge of this effort?

You're looking at a week-old poll that asked the wrong questions.

The poll, conducted by David Binder, showed that 57 percent of California voters are in support of the proposal. Only 35 percent were opposed to it, while 8 percent remained undecided.

PredictIt has the odds of it passing at 99%. If you want to put your money where your mouth is, you could be rich.

You deleted (deliberately?) this part of the article:

A new poll from Newsom's pollster, reported by Axios, suggests a majority of voters are prepared to support the ballot measure.

Gavin's own pollster says it will pass. O course he will say that or he would be out of a job.

Good find. And seemingly bad news for Dems.

But the poll is a week old, and did not posit the current bill is a temporary measure.

We'll know more in a few weeks.

Yes, the other poll is old, not reflecting the actual bill itself being only a temporary change.

I think it's going to pass.

I must admit, there are times I think of this . . .

I'd be incredibly surprised if it doesn't.
I kinda do hope it passes. It will show that the Democrats will do anything to maintain power. The problem that the Dems have is that the only states that they can conceivable make big gerrymandering gains are CA, IL (which is already badly gerrymandered) and NY. They don't have control of enough states. If CA does go forward with this, expect every single Republican state legislature to pass new maps before the 2026 elections. FL, GA, NC, SC, OH, MI could all be big wins for Republicans.
