They didn't believe it was Hunters laptop. If it was Hunter's laptop they (many people in the media and former CIA and FBI types) suggested it was Russian disinformation on it. The story was effectively squashed.

Because the story was and still is so outrageous and laughable. And still much of it may be disinformation.

Those are interesting questions that need to be answered. He should of known as well as the librarian at a minimum. How does someone unknowingly remove highly sensitive documents unknowingly and under the nose of NARA?

Why didn’t trump return the hundreds of documents he stole when he was contacted by NARA?
