Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has pushed back against Republican claims that Washington, D.C., has become too dangerous to walk its streets, describing his regular early-morning strolls as “perfectly safe.”

His comments come as President Donald Trump has declared a crime emergency in the city and deployed the National Guard to assist with law enforcement.

In an interview with “The Parnas Perspective,” Schumer detailed his routine walks around the Capitol and nearby monuments at sunrise. He criticized Republican lawmakers who have called for a federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and supported Trump’s intervention.

“I feel perfectly safe. They’re full of it,” Schumer stated. He suggested that Trump’s focus on D.C. crime is a political strategy to divert attention from other issues, specifically referencing the ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

Comment:
Washington D.C. recorded a homicide rate of 27.54 per 100,000 residents in 2024.
Seth Rich would tell Chuck Schumer that he is wrong about Washington DC streets being " perfectly safe " if he was still alive.
BTW, Chuck Schumer should give all of the donations that he got from his buddy Jeffrey Epstein to his rape victims.

Your post is typical SHIT. Look at the REAL crime statistics in DC, they are way down and have been for a long time.. PAY ATTENTION to REAL statitics.

WASHINGTON - Total violent crime for 2024 in the District of Columbia is down 35% from 2023 and is the lowest it has been in over 30 years, according to data collected by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and announced by United States Attorney Matthew M. Graves. A breakdown of the data is available here.

Wow! Only 101 murders so far this year. Theyll be opening a Disney theme park any day now.

The real crime statistics are that DC has a violent crime rate four times higher than the national average.

Over the last decade DC has consistently ranked among the top 10 US cities with the highest murder rate. A dip in the rate this year doesn't make it a safe city.

Which puts DC on pace for 140 murders this year. Perhaps with the National Guard's help, the murder rate could go down another 35% and save another 49 people over the next 12 months? Nah, the lives of 49 people hardly stack up to the joys of morally preening over Trump's latest fascist outrage.

As usual real facts and Schumer are far apart. Turns the WDC cops were cooking the books;

How much does Trump need to warp one's perception of reality in order to assert the streets of DC are safe?
The democrats seemed to have boxed themselves into a situation where they cannot ever agree with Trump on anything. Their position on any issue is determined by where trump stands. They then take the opposite side.

With the amusing irony being that Trump dictates their thinking every bit as much as he does his most faithful followers. Trump says DC is unsafe, and they must argue that DC is safe, facts and logic be damned.

What a lying asshole. He has a 20 team security unit that is with him all the time. Of course he feels safe. I bet his team even carries guns, with bullets. Serious I doubt he goes on walks. Sort of like his fabricated couple in his book. They don't exist.
DC is safe.
Trumps a liar.
On pace for 173 murders this year. Yeah, safe. Now if it was 174, that would be unsafe.

18 cities have higher homicide rates than DC in the US. Most people walk the streets of DC without worry. That you would be afraid is a problem with you, not the city.

You are confused. 2023 was I believe an all time high, so yeah down is good but hardly safe. Specifically, in 2024, DC's homicide rate was roughly 26.6 per 100,000 people, according to The New York Times. On pace for 173 murders at the current rate this year. Stil one of the cities with highest per capita murder rate. Then you have juvenile crime that is basically ignore becaue of stupid as rules the city council set. A 24 year old can be treated as a minor? Hell, that classic stupid fn liberal shit right there.
And if you didn't catch the story. A DC police commander, Michael Pulliam, was placed on administrative leave in May 2025 following allegations of falsifying crime statistics in his district. Pulliam had previously served as a police commander for the Metropolitan Police Department's Third District. Well, democrats lied about Trump/Russia, they lied about the Ukraine phone call, they lied to the FISA court, .............and now we see they lied about crime numbers. I guess reducing violent crime to misdemeanors just wasn't enought.

Why is it that some on the right deliberately miss the point — or pretend to. Crime is down on DC. That’s the reality, that’s the reason why people are critical of Trump’s insistence that he needed to send troops. Did you not know this?

So if an abusive spouse only beats the shit out of his wife and kids twice a month instead of 3 times a month the left will celebrate and tell us everything it OK. What a F'n bunch of bullshitters. The left lies, refuses to recognize the huge problem with crime in blue cities run by blue leadership. You really don't care about crime.

"crime is down" and "dc is unsafe" are perfectly compatible claims.

Crime is statistically down. "Unsafe" is subjective. They can't be compared.

Standards are set, however, and if we apply metrics to arrive at an objective of "safe," the direction crime is headed is how we infer need. Crime may not have reached the "safe" level, but if it's headed in that direction, this indicates policy success. This could change, but currently, DC police have succeeded in reducing crime drastically. On the other hand, crime may not be at the "unsafe" level but headed in that direction. This would indicate failed policy. It would be such a city needing help.

Tell that to the poster that tried to refute one with the other.
