Christie: Marijuana is a gateway drug. We have an enormous addiction problem in this country. And we need to send very clear leadership from the White House on down through the federal law enforcement. Marijuana is an illegal drug under federal law. And the states should not be permitted to sell it and profit from it.
The governor has long opposed both medicinal and recreational marijuana and only allowed tightly restricted use of medical marijuana in New Jersey after a very public lobbying campaign that pitted him against the father of a little girl.
He is a wanker, he wouldn't even OK the "Charlotte's Web" cannibis oil that helps kids with seizures, it has no THC, can't get you high, but has helped so many kids.
The feds should decriminalize marijuana and leave it up to the states to pass referendums. Right now there is a conflict though with federal laws saying it's illegal and state laws permitting it. Him trying to crack down on pot legalization really isn't much different from what Obama did with AZ when they passed the immigration bill that went against fed law (and was struck down in court when brought to trial).
He took it to court and waited until the courts decided whose power belonged to who?
With the AZ law? If I remember right the court said AZ law went beyond federal law and fed law trumps state law, therefore it was overturned. I could be wrong though.

The war on alcohol gave us organized crime.Lol...what's next?
Bringing back prohibition?
It's 2015, not 1985...get with the times.
The war on alcohol gave us organized crime.
The war on drugs has given us the international drug cartels.
What's next? Not a clue - but I'm sure some "well meaning" politician needing a platform big enough to support their massive ego will find some new vice to demonize into legislation... and votes.
One can only imagine what manner of criminal entity THAT will spawn.
And I didn't even mention all the black markets federal legislation has created for numerous vices the federal government doesn't like. Tobacco being one of the biggest.I could not agree more.
One might think that politicians would not be so monumentally ignorant so as to realize that whatever helps organized crime is bad...but no.
America could virtually end organized crime overnight by federally legalizing drugs, gambling and prostitution and removing excessive taxes on all sin items (like the above plus tobacco).

It is rather ironic how this administration is doing everything in its power to make lives living hell for those states that have legalized it. Problem is, these laws represent big money for the federal government.
It's time we quit pretending this world is a utopia (let alone that it can be) and start dealing with these vices differently, with strategies that don't involve legislation, and tactics that don't involve paramilitary forces and prisons.
Chris Christie vows crackdown on marijuana as president - CNN.com
I like Chris Christie, but a guy the size of a refrigerator shouldn't be talking about addiction. I'm guessing he only complains about 'big government' if Cola-Cola is what is being restricted.
Religion isn't the problem. We have these people in religion too - we call them "legalists" and their approach to religion "legalistic." They believe that as long as you follow all the rules, and there are rules for everything, then you are, or can become righteous. It's no different in the secular world; in fact the philosophy is precisely the same. It's a nice thought, but I now believe that most people are too stupid/weak to think for themselves on most political matters...they just think what they are told to (but convince themselves it was their idea).
Throw in religion...which is a bastion for social stagnation...and humanity is probably doomed to centuries more (at least) of staggering ignorance (assuming it survives that long).

You cannot argue the philosophy behind legalizing booze and reefer is people will consume it so make it legal. So, taking that to the next step why legalize 100% of all stimulants, depressants mood boosters, crack, etc.? The logic is the same. It parallels making poverty against the law or out lawing not sex but the sex drive itself. Until we adopts the "shoot on site" policy for drug use it will never, never, never change.
