Africa's 'miracle' is still being studied. It's entirely possible that there may be some sort of as yet unexplained immunity acquired among Africans but the more likely explanations are that African countries tend to be younger, and therefore less susceptible to severe illness, than the rest of the world. Moreover, they also just don't the same level of case surveillance. The idea that a continent would fare better than the rest of the world because it took fewer precautions is highly unlikely.

Absolutely no disagreement there.

To expand on that a bit, I think that what China was doing under Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin was actually working. It was an authoritarian group regime in which power didn't flow through one individual but through a fairly well organized group structure. They were like the Soviet commies, but unlike the Soviets, they had (wisely) abandoned the idea of central economic planning - mostly anyway.

Xi Jinping, however, has had designs on grabbing power for himself. He fancies himself as a visionary, a super-nationalist. He's addicted to the idea that he can singularly raise China to lone superpower status. In fact, he's doing the opposite. If he gets a third term later this year, there's a good chance he'll become a de facto Chairman for life a la Mao. And there's a good chance he'll **** it all right up.

As world governments and major media stand by and say nothing, people in China are even jumping to their deaths while facing starvation during a total lockdown in which people may not leave their apartments for any reason, except medical emergency. The absolute power is based on what the government says is a health threat from COVID, a 99.8% recovery rate virus for which cases are detected by deeply flawed PCR tests.

Even Anthony Fauci said on Dec 29, 2021 that PCR tests are not predictive of contagiousness, or even illness. PCR tests often merely detect a dead fragment of virus from a recovered person.
