I think a lot of Americans' view of the Chinese Communist Party is basically, 'it's bad for the Chinese people, good luck to them, but whatcha gonna do', and just look at it like 'that just shows our country is better than theirs' and we take some self satisfied pride and ignore the issue. 'We have freedom, they don't, our country is better'.

A problem with that view, is that apart from not learning more about important lessons of how tyranny works there - which would help recognize how Republicans have similarities and threats posed here - it doesn't recognize how the CCP views democracies as their global enemy, a threat to their corrupt system, and the dangers they post to the democracies as a result.

We get 'whiffs' of the issue, when we find we are not allowed to communicate to the Chinese people, while China spreads propaganda across the west; when China demands that western companies support their propaganda and give them many concessions, including supporting human rights abuses; and more, including some pretty bad concessions given by western governments.

Another 'whiff' of the issue is how China invested $10 billion in what are called "Confucius Institutes", linked to educational institutions with a cover story of being about 'educating on Chinese culture', but are more arms of the CCP, trying to suppress discussion of issues the CCP doesn't like, to monitor Chinese citizens abroad, and more.

More than a whiff comes from their efforts to pursue Chinese people in other countries, to punish and silence them for any activity or speech the CCP doesn't like - with western governments sometimes cooperating. A youtuber who posts videos about the CCP has made one on the topic of this pursuit of people. It's one of many with issues good to learn about, especially given China is the coming biggest danger likely for the rest of the century.

In other words, a brutal, genocidal dictatorship is being exactly that.

They’ve been doing this for years now.

"FBI director Christopher Wray has claimed that nearly half of around 5,000 active FBI counterintelligence cases are related to China."

Wow.

""The stakes could not be higher," said Wray, adding: "China is engaged in a whole-of-state effort to become world's only superpower by any means necessary.”"

You'd think people should care about that? See my OP how most don't.
