BEIJING (AP) — China’s burgeoning space program achieved a first on Thursday: a landing on the so-called dark side of the moon.
Three nations — the United States, the former Soviet Union and more recently China — have sent spacecraft to the near side of the moon, which faces Earth, but this landing is the first-ever on the far side.
Dont worry, Trump's Space Force will land on the light side of the sun, and beat the Chinese to it!

Its actually unbelievable that our space program is non-existent. Embarrassing, really.
They say they can do it too. They are going to go there at night.

Yep, $19B/year is considered non-existent these days.

Oh, it spends money. The last Space Shuttle was retired in July 2011. That's 6.5 years at $19 billion and we can't put a single astronaut into space.
The other crazy piece is that we actually maintain a large pool of astronauts - 38 at last count. I'm all for maintaining a small pool of people with these skills, but very few of these will ever set foot in space. Many will go through their astronaut careers without even touching an actual working spacecraft.

How do they communicate with it?
One challenge of operating on the far side of the moon is communicating with Earth. China launched a relay satellite in May so that Chang’e 4 can send back information.

That (bolded above) seems to be equated to mission accomplished these days.
Just because a team has decent funding, a fancy stadium, excellent practice facilities, highly ranked draft picks and a good depth chart does not mean that they can make it to the Super Bowl.
You guys should just forgo the wall. Put the money into your space program and move to Mars. That'd show the Mexicans...
Can't tell if serious.
NASA news just isn't front page anymore. China landed on the moon in 2019. We've been on Mars for years and have two spacecraft that have exited the solar system and have other craft examining smaller fly-by asteroids in deep space.
And now we have privatized flights to the edge of space and back.
SpaceX is throwing up rockets left and right and is about to put thousands of satellites up for a constellation that will provide world-wide gigabit internet service. And landing their booster rockets in the process for reuse. SpaceX just broke a record by successfully launching 64 satellites out of one rocket.
Yeah, but we need people on the moon. That way the next time China sends up one of their clunkers, we can huck it right into the recycle bin.
It would be hilarious to have two nations on the moon from time to time putting graffiti on each other's flags. Then taking a selfie with it and sending that image back to earth.
A space wall to keep aliens away from the US. Keep American anus's safe from the probes. Won't someone finally think of the drunken men who when coming home from a night of drinking with their buddies who get anally probed and don't remember much of it, except it was aliens
