Disgusting woke censorship. Poor guy must be rolling in his grave.

What a shame!

Just another example of the "new society" whitewashing of history, literature, and any other medium of knowledge in the name of "sensitivity."

"whitewashing noun (HIDING)
[ S or U ] disapproving, an attempt to stop people finding out the true facts about a situation: This is a politically correct whitewashing of the region's troubles." https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/whitewashing

We are seeing all sorts of efforts to change, hide, modify in order to otherwise deceive in the name of preventing offense.

Also from that source:

"snowflake noun (c) Person

informal disapproving
an insulting way of referring to someone who is considered by some people to be too easily upset and offended:
Why are young liberals known as snowflakes?" https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/snowflake

I remember something like that happening to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn when I was a kid.

Stop the presses!

They changed “little men” to “little people” and replaced adjectives such as “fat” with “enormous”

The horror!

Have you seen Florida where there are literally classrooms with zero books?

Have you seen any of the other threads where people are stroking out at school board meetings (some at schools where they don’t have children attending) over books their children aren’t even reading?

In other news, owners of Rahl’s pre-edit books now will have collector editions.

Books get edited and changed. That’s why you’ll see different editions, publications, etc listed.

Here are some popular books that were edited after initial publications:

I will put James and the Giant Peach next to And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,
Yep.

I am making a mental note to check my son’s book shelves and pull the copy and put it away. Some day it will be considered a collector’s item. And maybe if he has kids they will like it.

I recently found some of my old books from when I was a child in storage. Those nursery rhymes were wicked!

Nothing new here.

An example from the original first publication of grimms fairy tales.

Yes, yes, we know how you love woke and censorship. "Fat" is such a bad word for you that you cant bear to see it in any kind of written format.

No shit. You never wrote anything so you obviously fail to see the problem here.

When you change words and edit things out, it changes the whole story, its not the same thing that the author intended to write in the first place. Once these new editions are out, the previous editions will go out of print, making them hard to find if you want a physical book, and the new editions are not the same things the author wanted. Of course, that doesnt bother you none, for obvious reasons.

Why would it bother me?

Books are edited regularly. Wording is changed, language is changed, illustrations are changed.

Do you think the beloved Bible that is used to beat people over the head hasn’t been edited and changed countless times?

That is a lie. Books are not being regularly edited over and over. Printing hundreds of thousands of copies costs a lot of money, so does shipping them and warehousing them. 99% of editing is done before a book gets published, and so it is obviously a huge cost to the publishing firms when they do this. Please stop talking about things you dont know.

Incorrect.

Anyone that actually knows anything about books knows that books are often edited, changed, modified, etc.

Nothing about changing a book is “new” or “woke”. It is a practice that has literally existed since the written word has existed.

You just didn’t bother to learn anything about it until someone told you to be outraged.

All of the Harry Potter books were extensively edited when Scholastic Publishing got the rights to them in the USA

If you want to read an original you'll have to get it in Europe.

First editions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are worth thousands.

And are different than the one that you could buy today.

And will be different than the ones that are going to come out after these next edits.

Nothing about this is “new” or “woke” or uncommon.

Leftists shit themselves when conservatives object to books in school libraries promote pedophilia, then shit themselves again when words in other books are deemed 'offensive'.

What a time we live in.

Sarcasm noted and ignored.

"Enormous" could mean any damn thing. "Fat" is a precise description.
And that is what Augustus is. He's a fat, gluttonous pig and that is what causes him to screw the pooch at the factory.

Leftists are the poster children for hypocrisy on MANY subjects.

I named my dog Veruca.

imo, books should not be edit/changed. What should be taught is the historical context in which the book was written.

That is I have no problems with Adventures of Huck Finn, Willy Wonka, etc. The words are used were commonly used when the book was written.

Some people need to get a life.

"Promote pedophilia?"

Dude, that is one sick sentiment. Throwing it around wrecklessly like this gets innocent people attacked, phyisically.

Try showing a little class, and humanity.

What a time, indeed.

No...promoting pedophilia is sick. Using the school systems to attack children is sick.

But I agree...leftists are some sick ****s.
