Looks like we need a thread for Catholicism, as some brothers are getting heavily into it at another thread.
So, here is a platform for all things Catholic.

Without further ado, let me start with this:

According to a news report, the Pope had issued a controversial statement:

Pope Francis' claim ‘all religions are a path to God’ rebuked by clergy

Departing from his prepared remarks, Francis spoke off the cuff, stating that different religions are like “different languages” to reach God.

“If you start to fight, ‘my religion is more important than yours, mine is true and yours isn’t,’ where will that lead us?” he asked,” according to Crux Now.
“There’s only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sheik, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and they are different paths [to God].”

Reacting to the pontiff's comments, Bishop Joseph Strickland, who oversaw the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tyler, Texas, until his dismissal by the Vatican last year, said in a post on X,

"Please pray for Pope Francis to clearly state that Jesus Christ is the only Way. To deny this is to deny Him. If we deny Christ, He will deny us, He cannot deny Himself."

“There’s only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sheik, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and they are different paths [to God].”

Pope Pious XII is the only Pope to have spoken ex cathedra (1950). If Pope Francis makes the above statement ex cathedra I'll have a whole new respect for the Pope and the Catholic Church. There's little if any chance he'll do it, but it would be awesome if he did. This is exactly the kind of religious thinking the world needs.

I'm an Agnostic and believe whole heartily with the Pope.

My religion and my beliefs are right and yours are wrong are such a crock of petty do do and ca ca.

Thousands of metaphors leading to one god is something that gives my atheist leanings pause.

'God' is somewhat of a nebulous and mysterious concept. I myself don't completely understand it. But I do believe what the Pope said is correct. Everyone's vision of God maps to the very same entity or being.

Some may know I was raised in the Catholic cult, taught by some very fine and caring nuns. studied the bible, went to church regularly, was an altar boy swinging that awful smell of death called incense. learned to sing in Latin. The nuns would sometimes allow questions on Catholic beliefs and said I had a one-track mind when I persisted to question certain beliefs and they had no answers.

It is said that the pope is fallible, so any questioning of his pronouncements is blasphemy, which is laughable. Popes used to claim that gay people deserved death and now they embrace them. Popes used to say women were inferior to men and should obey their husband and where do you hear that now? The Catholic church changes with society, albeit slowly and they are slowly becoming more secular and vaguer. They can abandon previous belies that were held for centuries, such as animals can go to heaven now. It is all to stop the losing more and more people who are tossing away the beliefs of priests and bishops invented in 325 AD at the Council of Nicaea when the stodgy old men in robes argued over what books should stay or go and what beliefs were best to indoctrinate humanity with.

Now that they are losing believers fast, the Pope has to say that God is really some generic entity and that Catholics have found a way to commune with him, but so have Muslims, Hindus, etc. For all we know the pope thinks atheists can find "God" too. This is just a way for the Catholics to make it seem like they are all inclusive when they really aren't. Joseph Tyler objects. He most likely thinks killing gays and men being the lord of the household is OK cause it's in the Bible.

I think you mean "infallible." The Pope is not infallible unless speaking ex cathedra, which only one Pope has done.

My bad.

But I also think the doctrine of infallibility is stupid and I don't care if this upsets some Catholics here. It was stated as a way of making people believe. A rather transparent ruse and a way of making people obey.

The Pope is a false teacher.

I get his point he's trying to unify Christianity. Not as one total denomination but more as cousins. Really why should we be arguing with each other. Are definitely not a Catholic I once thought I was but since realized it's not for me. But that doesn't make me think Catholics are wrong I may think they're wrong about certain things but that's a conversation to have with mutual respect for one another.

If you profess to follow Christ then you are by definition Christian.

Sounds very Baha’i. From their writings:

“Throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine Educators—known as Manifestations of God—whose teachings have provided the basis for the advancement of civilization. These Manifestations have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muḥammad. Bahá’u’lláh, the latest of these Messengers, explained that the religions of the world come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.

Bahá’ís believe the crucial need facing humanity is to find a unifying vision of the future of society and of the nature and purpose of life. Such a vision unfolds in the writings of Bahá’u’lláh.”

"That the diverse communions of the earth, and the manifold systems of religious belief, should never be allowed to foster the feelings of animosity among men, is, in this Day, of the essence of the Faith of God and His Religion. These principles and laws, these firmly-established and mighty systems, have proceeded from one Source, and are rays of one Light. That they differ one from another is to be attributed to the varying requirements of the ages in which they were promulgated."

“All the teaching of the Prophets is one; one faith; one Divine light shining throughout the world. Now, under the banner of the oneness of humanity all people of all creeds should turn away from prejudice and become friends and believers in all the Prophets.

“The difference between the ordinances under which they (the various religions) abide should be attributed to the varying requirements and exigencies of the age in which they were revealed. All of them [the world’s religions], except a few which are the outcome of human perversity, were ordained of God, and are a reflection of His Will and Purpose.“

"...God is that Essence that must of necessity exist, that His Messengers are the intermediaries between Him and His creatures, and that their mission is to lead humanity unto Him..."

"The day is coming when all the religions of the world will unite, for in principle they are one already".

“There’s only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sheik, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and they are different paths [to God].”

No matter what language - to Christians, JESUS is the ONLY path to GOD!

We can all cry out to Yahweh................or to Mohammad........or to Buddha................but that won't bring any salvation UNLESS we have JESUS.

We may think we are going towards GOD by going around Jesus Christ - but GOD - the ONE and ONLY GOD, will reject you.

If GOD rejects us, how is that reaching God?

What about intelligent life on planets in distant galaxies, how in the **** are they supposed to find Jesus.

Your argument is so biased and filled with holes, its laughable.

Assuming they exist...........

How do you know they hadn't found................or, heard of Jesus?
How do you know they weren't told of the history of the world suffering because of Adam and Eve?

What do we know of GOD's message to them?
Are they supposed to accept Jesus before being saved? I don't know.

Or, since the whole creation suffers because of man's sin (on earth).................are life forms in other galaxies simply eagerly waiting for the Second Coming? Most likely.

The only thing we are told in the Bible are the important information that concerns us - humans on earth.

We don't even know if God has a separate covenant with other creatures (animals and other life forms), that pertains to them only.
Seems like, we're given information on a "need-to-know" basis.

And GOD has said, Jesus is the ONLY PATH.

Its true, the Pope sees the writing on the wall, modernity is the true believers worst enemy.

Common sense seems to escape you again, adam and eve on a exo planet a 100 light years away, really.

Its no wonder why so many are leaving the church, buying in defies simple judgment, sense, and wisdom .

We are but a mere blue dot on a dot in the universe, the center of nothing.

On February 14, 1990, Voyager 1 space probe turned it camera backwards and took this shot of earth as it was leaving our solar system.

Yes. This is one area of the Catholic belief system that is especially irritating to me because I lived it. I had a mother who was a devout Catholic and was taught that it was a woman's job to love, honor and obey her man, not work or drive a car, have many children for "God" and stand by her man, who was a drunk and verbal abuser who lost job after job. If you were to ask Catholics today about that setup that was practiced by Catholics in the early to mid 1900s they would deny it. If you looked it up and showed it to them, they would still deny it. The more modern Catholics would be incredulous and perhaps just shrug and say that the bible didn't "really" condone that.

Women in the 1950s were getting sick of the subjugation and obedience to dominant males all in the name of "God" and were rebelling, leaving the church, getting jobs, and (perish the thought) driving cars of all things. https://uscatholic.org/articles/202010/how-laywomen-changed-the-church-after-vatican-ii/

Those were the things that the "Church" taught women to be. ALL of them bible based. Now they have changed. Only took them 2,000 and only because people were fed up with the church and they were losing donations.
