Title says it all. After the last upgrade, I can no longer see most emojis... just empty boxes or black-white face w/o expression. I suspect I was supposed to update something on my computer, but don't know what and don't know how because I am technologically illiterate. Can anyone take pity and give me a clue?

Testing: (y) :( :D :( 🤷‍♂️

Maybe it's your computer or browser?

I use Chrome too. Refresh your browser and make sure you allow this app fully through your firewall. I've had firewall issues too I never asked for.

I can see them in Chrome, too.

It could be either. Either her windows version could not support that version of emojis or the browser.

How do I refresh my browser? Yes, I know, I'm a sad case. :(
No, it was a DP Forum upgrade several weeks ago. I hoped my problem would just go away. It didn't.
Fear not. I do programming for my civilian job and have some idea where the problem could be.

Can you run the first two little tests on this website? It will let me know what kind of support you have for different emoji versions.

It's OK. Google "refresh my chrome browser " and follow the directions. :) They try hard to make it easy for those of us who didn't grow up with a smart phone glued to our ear....

Could it possibly your ad-blocker (if you are using one)? Maybe it thinks some of those emojis are supposed to be blocked? (Grasping at straws here.)

I got nothing on the 14.0 test. The 13.0 test worked.

Assuming you are using chrome, check if there is a chrome update. If there is it will appear in the top right corner of the screen.

I tried it, but it tells me I need Windows 10. :(

I hate it when technology moves faster than I do!

Maybe my problem is that I'm still using Windows 7. :( It won't let me update/upgrade until I get Windows 10.
OK, if this is the case, google "upgrade my chrome to 10" . If your laptop/computer/tablet is capable of the upgrade, it should work. If not do what I do. Take it to BestBuy Geek Squad and tlet them do it.!

oop, well yeah that's it. Browsers control which emojis sets you can see and it looks like your version of Chrome only supports up to v13.0 emojis but not anything past that (we are on version 14-15 now) which is why you can see some but not all of them.

Not really much you can do except update to windows 10 but as I don't know what your computer configuration is I have no idea if it will let you do that.

I believe there is some browser extension that allows you to see newer emojis? But to be honest window 7 is pretty old and you will run into more serious problems than not seeing emojis at some point soon.

:) Mycroft, you sound like my older siblings--they can't understand why their little sis is the last to switch to any new technology. They don't realize that I'm just waiting for them to give me a "hand-me-down." :)

It's most likely a software problem where the DP upgrade is using a different (newer) Unicode to read the emoticon symbols. Sometimes an OS update or XenForo update fixes it as the problem becomes widespread and the code is modified by the programmers.

Upgrade to Windows 10. I did it last year and it was really painless.

I've got Windows 10, but now they've come out with Windows 11.

I haven't upgraded to 11, because I figure it's only 10% better.

(A little math humor, there. :) )
