I think Trudeau showed up because that's his FREAK'N JOB to act on behalf of Canada's best interests. Only the childish among you would accuse him of caving or grovelling.I posted a YouTube video of some idiot from The Wall Street Journal trying to do the same thing with Trump and he decimated the guy and told him he and the WSJ has never been right on anything.
WHY do you think Trudeau showed up to talk to Trump? Do you think China can or will do anything? Or Europe? Or France? They have been screwing America for a long time and that is why they are against tariffs. They don't want their scheme to end.
So, if you don't like the fact that prices at Walmart will be higher, go without OR......buy AMERICAN.
Trump did this to Canada once before remember? What happened that time?
Canada retaliated with targeted tariffs as did Mexico and China - prices skyrocketed in the U.S. with just one result your taxes went to hugely increasing (billions) subsidies to your farmers to keep them from going bankrupt.
BRICS
The big expansion of BRICS membership is part of the fallout from that previous Trump exercise. Other countries decided to trade elsewhere and develope trade deals with other countries by-passing the use of the greenback entirely. Do you have any idea of how many consumers BRICS encompasses? Trump is telling them he's prepared to do a trade battle with countries of multiple billions of people by threatening to punish/close your market of a paltry 340 million?
Did jobs come back to the U.S. in numbers to offset the lay-offs? Remember those jobs in COAL that he was bringing back or those jobs at a Carrier plant where he made a similar announcement that went to Mexico as soon as his motorcade left the parking lot? Did you take note other nations like Saudi Arabia started doing oil business with BRICS member countries using their own currency?
Did you people not take note of any of this at all and still think it a big deal to come on here and bluster about sticking it to Canada?
IF Trump follows through as he's stated, yes Canada will be badly hurt BUT we will take some solace (however small) that all that talk about fixing your economy that wasn't broken and quelling inflation, that will, on the contrary, exponentially surge to a tsunami of cost hikes the likes of which you haven't seen for decades.
I desperately hope I'm wrong but your own economists and previous Trump cabinet members are sounding the alarms in a most strident fashion.
