Canada and the West are at war with "russian" (Muscovite) empire whether they want it or not: military experts.

Great article, i say sanctions more more, Oil - Gas- SWIFT etc. Iranian sanctions on ozero today , we must finish off Moscow´s horde (empire), not provoke it with so - called "resets " and shadow deals with this crime cartel ozero

Russian aggression is the greatest challenge facing Canada and Western democracies right now as the Kremlin tries to dismantle the rules-based international order that’s existed since the end of the Second World War, military experts are warning.

And as a result, some say Canada and its allies should consider themselves already at war with Russia.

“This is not an interwar period. The war is on,” said Frederick Kagan, resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and an expert on critical threats.

....
The Arctic is no longer a fortress wall and our oceans are no longer protective moats, they are now avenues of approach for advanced conventional weapons and the platforms that carry them,”

What about china? That's not a vastly superior threat to old former soviet platforms?

Canada really needs a couple of carriers. One for the Atlantic. One for the Pacific. Either could be used in the Arctic as needed.

Why? What power projection does Canada need?

Enough to fulfill its foreign commitments.
Canada's only foreign military commitment is to NATO and that wouldn't be served by aircraft carriers. If Canada needs more of anything to aid It's commitment to NATO it would be air troop transport. Canada's military specialty is special forces infantry. Our closest NATO ally, Britain, has the Royal Navy.
That said, and oddly enough, by the end of WW2 Canada had the third largest maritime commitment in the world when the population of Canada was 12 million.

Most of those ships were Frigates and Corvettes, though.

agreed , USA has money and technology for it . Muscovy does not ....

In the real world you need those too. From what I've read one of the biggest criticisms of the British navy today is that they've invested too much time and effort in the two new carriers and not enough in building and manning adequate surface escorts.

Yet you want the tiny Canadian Navy to do the exact same thing?

Well no. I think besides a couple of carriers, Canada should invest more heavily in escort vessels as well. A total of 20 or so more ships should do the trick.

Are you willing to have American tax dollars subsidize these probably hundred billion dollars or so of increased Navy spending?

guys whats about AIP - submarines? Canada can get them easy, meanwhile Nigeria with snow incapable to build them

The true title of the article.

Canada and the West are at war with Russia whether they want it or not: military experts

There is no Muscovite Empire. No "Moscow's horde". Why do you keep regurgitating this nonsense?

What about them?

Russia can build both conventional and nuclear powered submarines.
Nigeria with snow ( 2 empires) has tried to build AIP submorines for 40 years, and failed, it does know how , can not build them , your buddies in Moscow are too primitive ulus for this high - tech task

So what?

They haven't "failed". Improved Ladas can be built with fuel cells.

Stop the "buddies in Moscow" nonsense. It is stupid.

And "primitive ulus" is both stupid and incorrect.

Fuel cells aren't exactly "high - tech task".

So what? We have surround Russia with military bases and nuclear weapons on all sides except the Russian border with China.

Canada is nothing but an irrelevant joke militarily hiding behind the USA's skirt - like most Western countries do.

Canada knows that it has build own powerful military forces or " it could slowly lose its grip on the Arctic. " whats good here our Canadian brothers are not along "
Kremlin has poured vast resources into revamping Soviet-era bases in the Arctic.

"There is a very dramatic buildup of Russian military capability right across the top end of Russia, starting with Norway, working right across, right through to Alaska," McKay said Friday in an interview with Chris Hall airing today on CBC Radio's The House.

Russia isn't the only country expanding its command of the North as climate change opens access to resources and shipping lanes. The U.S., Canada, Denmark and Norway are all nudging their way into the polar region as well.

I can't because that is not true.
