Hatuey here with another hard hitting question to make some people uncomfortable enough to show up just to tell me they don't like the question.

Please review the question and answer accordingly. This question is also allergic to if buts and maybes.
I think it’s a good question, and gets to the heart of the issue of what is the United States. Should an entire country be identified with one elected leader? My vote is no.
 
I love America and I can understand what Trump is trying to accomplish. It's not all rainbows and unicorns.

I think it will spur the Democrats to take a good hard look at why they failed last November.
So far, no indication of this, at all, as is evidenced by their mistaken belief that going further left is going improve their results - it won't . . .

And it is fun to see them flail around trying to package their failed ideology into something their base can tolerate, like transgenderism and pushing for males to play in women's sports.
. . . and there's one of a number of 80% / 20% issues which they've taken the 20% position.
 
Of course you can. The two aren't even remotely compatible, as popular propaganda insists upon.

The Dems lost because they're too focused on identity politics and fringe issues. "It's the economy, stupid" doesn't resonate with them.

Nancy Pelosi chose RINO Liz Cheney to act as token Republican in the KGB style show trial. Participation in the Banana republic spectacle is about as Anti-American as you can get.

Cheney's constituents showed exactly how much they love our country by handing her a 30 point blowout loss in the primary.

Yes and no. There was Hillary’s deplorable “deplorables” comment, taken I believe a little out of context, and there has been a long term put down of working class whites by part of the liberal culture, with depictions from “The Life of Riley” to “All in the Family.” (Regarding that latter show, it redeemed itself with the great episode when the Meathead and Archie were sort of trapped in a warehouse, with talking about his father and prejudices against his type.)

But on the other hand, liberals support workers’ and working class people’s rights in a number of areas. This, while conservatives joyfully welcome what were called “Reagan democrats,” that welcome doesn’t include raising the minimum wage, strict enforcement of job safety standards, environmental protections for working class communities, etc.

Nope, Trump just acts like a jerk sometimes. It's the left that decided to hate him and anyone who can even mildly tolerate him.
 
I "truly love America and what it stands for" AND I truly dislike those so-called Americans who want to see Trump fail with his immigration, deportation, energy, military, and anti-WOKE policies.
Imagine, the majority of voters selecting a new president and then having the butt-hurt minority of voters wanting to see him fail. Is that American or it is simply self-defeating ignorance?
Trump's policies are unconstitutional. He wants to deny due process. He wants to silence his critics who report accurately about him. He wants to rewrite history to erase any mention of the accomplishments of African-Americans, women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. He is also destroying our economy and helping to ruin the environment. If Trump succeeds, America fails. I will add that he does have only a 39% approval rating, so those who don't like what he's doing are not a minority. Those of us who truly love this country know that in order for America to survive as the great beacon of democracy it has been, Trump must fail.

The rise of this blusterous man bewilders the educated among us, conjoins opposing politicians, agonizes our international allies, threatens minorities, spits on the disabled, and touches the hearts of those who just don't know any better. Let us stop propounding how mad this all is, but instead, do something.

I've been saying this for awhile now: you can love and support America without being a Trump supporter. I've even gone further and have said that one can be a conservative and not be a Trump supporter.
If you truly are a Conservative, there is no way you can support Trump. He is anathema to all true Conservatives. Shredding the Constitution, defying court orders, denying due process, and lying to the public are the antithesis of conservative values.

I said yes, as it is perfectly logical. HOWEVER can I love America if I don't like Democratic policies?
 
I was thinking about this today: what am I proud of as an American?

In 2025, not much. Do I feel fortunate to live here? Having traveled the world and seen abject poverty, yes, I do, but feeling fortunate about being born into a wealthy family doesn't mean you're proud of the family if the family does dishonorable things.

I agree that our country is great enough to withstand this attack that Trump has wrought. We are in for some really bad times, but we will come out at the end stronger than ever. We survived the McCarthy era; we survived Watergate. We will survive Trump. Our great country has done much for the world, but Trump is destroying all that we have accomplished. Thanks to this con man in the oval office, the USA has become the world's pariah. I don't hate Donald Trump; I just hate what he has done to damage our country.

Would you be so kind as to explain that comment? Can you give examples of hate coming from Democrats? It's not Democrats who vilify foreigners. It's not Democrats who spread anti-Muslim rhetoric. It's not Democrats who refer to hard working, honest Mexicans as rapists.

I'm not a US citizen either. In the past I've liked and admired the USA - mostly. 'Love' would be too strong a word. However it would be a long time before I trusted the US again.
