I think of the nonsense we were taught, such as the Lost Cause Myth about the Civil War. That was basically learning from one view, the Confederate view. And it was all myth taken as fact.
Was that being done in Maryland’s schools? If so, how did I miss being taught that?
If you're defending Confederate statues today, you were probabky taught it.
Indeed, many people do not even realize that the expansion of slavery was the primary cause of the Civil War.
So if you weren't taught it, you might have been sleeping in class.

That has nothing to do with teaching about the letter “Y”.

So you were sleeping. All my friends went to MD public schools and it's what they were taught. I learned it in a MD private school. We lived in a county that was 98% white.
The point remains, many were taught it. It's a myth. And it's only possible when other voices are ignored.
