A friend of mine at the gym today told me about a great program that gets one off the couch and running a 5K in just 9 weeks. I'm going to give it a shot:

The Couch-to-5K ® Running Plan | C25K Mobile App

It's a free self-training program and with no obligation..... I may post my progress in this thread, over the next 9 weeks. AND let me clue you - if I can do this, anyone can. :)

So, if you're willing - get off the couch and start training. We'll see who can post the best 5K time - last one to 5K is a rotten egg! :2razz:

:peace

A co-worker of mine had done the program. She really enjoyed it.

Back about 2005 or 6 I ran with a couple of really good looking women, I worked up to a respectable 1/2 marathon time. I really need some motivation to run again, I have just packed on the lard since. Perhaps this will help motivate me. I am in.

Awesome - good luck and may the best man "win"! :)

I'm starting on this first thing tomorrow morning - I'll post my progress and will look for your posts, as well. Remember, the only limitations are the ones we place on ourselves - we can do this!!

Day 1 complete. :)

I did a brisk 5 minute warmup walk, then alternated between jogging for 1 minute and walking for 1.5 minutes - for a total of 20 minutes. I'll be honest - I was having my doubts before the workout, as to whether I could do it or not.... However, once I got going, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only that, but I felt great afterwards.... I'll admit that I have a long ways to go before I can run a 5K - however, I'm just going to take it a day at a time and not look too far ahead (looking too far ahead is what has landed me in trouble regarding workouts in the past.....). AND I'm going to follow this through to the end - no fear here anymore... Whatever happens, happens - I'm going to "just do it," like Nike. :)

Taking the first step and beginning something like this has always been a problem for me - but, I found out today that initiating a running regimen is not all that bad.... What I like 'bout this couch to 5K program is that they start one out slow - then work you up gradually. Most importantly, if you feel you aren't ready to go to the next week, you can merely repeat the week you are on until you are comfortable to proceed. I may or may not do this in 9 weeks - but I know I can do this now and it feels damn good...

If anyone else out there wants to take up my challenge in my OP - it's not too late. Like I said, if I can do this, anyone can!

Anyways, for me, day 1 is compete - just 26 more workouts to go. Will keep everyone posted. :peace

I did the first day today. Yesterday my wife was having surgery. She just called me, I will get back later,
