Progressivism is so awful that even Californians are rejecting it. Here are some examples:
The first is Prop 21, which would have allowed local governments to enact rent control. It went down in flames:
Rent control laws are progressive, which means they are terrible. Government mandated price ceilings are just as bad as government mandated price floors. I'm not going into the arguments as to why they are terrible, but the left-leaning economist Assar Lindbeck once said, "In many cases rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing."
Of course, the biggest idiot in the senate wants rent control for the entire country:
Second is Proposition 16, which would have allowed California public universities and state and local governments to legally discriminate against white people and men when hiring government employees and awarding government contracts. Californians voted NO:
Next up is Proposition 22, which allows Uber and Lyft to keep treating drivers as independent contractors rather than employees, despite the terrible law known as AB5 - a disastrous progressive law intended to destroy the gig economy in California. AB5 is so bad it needs its own post.
Californians voted Yes:
Last is Prop 15, which, if approved, would have resulted in a large tax hike on evil big businesses in order to provide more money to government indoctrination centers. It's unbelievable, but Californians voted No:
If progressives ideas are this unpopular in California (the land of fruits and nuts), imagine how poorly they would fair in a normal state.
