May 6 (Reuters) - California energy officials on Friday issued a sober forecast for the state's electrical grid, saying it lacks sufficient capacity to keep the lights on this summer and beyond if heatwaves, wildfires or other extreme events take their toll.
...In an online briefing with reporters, the officials forecast a potential shortfall of 1,700 megawatts this year, a number that could go as high as 5,000 MW if the grid is taxed by multiple challenges that reduce available power while sending demand soaring, state officials said during an online briefing with reporters

sigh,...
AND the energy shortfall throughout the south western USA is exacerbated by 'climate change drought' in the South Western USA
Because the eco nuts say that building more power plants will destroy the planet, thats why.I don't know if im asking a dumb question but is there a reason they don't build more power plants to keep up with the increasing demand?
Have US homeowners ever considered trying to use less energy?
Because the eco nuts say that building more power plants will destroy the planet, thats why.
The main driver of power usage in California is air conditioning which increases in the summer and has only gotten progressively higher due to global warming.
Telling American homeowners to use less energy is like sneering at power usage of Europeans to keep their homes heated during the dead of winter.
We have, but do you know how many LEDs it takes to heat up an Easy Bake Oven?Have US homeowners ever considered trying to use less energy?
California has for decades given substantial tax credits for homeowners investing in insulation and other energy efficient home improvements/upgrades. Solar panels are popular in this state because so much of it has sunshine most of the year, and tax credits are an incentive to help defray the cost. I don't know what other states do, if anything, to encourage energy efficiency. In the UK the government has a scheme where they pay for home insulation to help lower winter heating bills.
I'm sure there are other ways to keep houses cool during the summer that are cheaper and more energy efficient than pure AC.
That said I do understand that you need ac as I honestly don't understand how you cope in places like Texas.
30C is about my limit and I think the hottest UK temp ever was just under 40C.
I'd have to spend the day in a swimming pool at 45C.
Now I am sure someone will call these 2 CommiesAnd the eco-wackos keep pushing the wonderfulness of EVs. That's liberal logic.
When the desert has a "drought" is it really a drought?sigh,...

Why should we??Have US homeowners ever considered trying to use less energy?

Don't worry. California is on this. That is why we are shutting down our one nuclear power plant at Diablo Canyon that generates 6% of our state's energy.
Why California is shutting down its last nuclear plant
California is closing Diablo Canyon, which is a source of clean power, as it faces an energy emergency and a mandate to eliminate carbon emissions. Why?www.cnbc.com
Though there is word that this move is being reconsidered at the executive level.
I'm a scientist - I know full-well that AGW is a fraud.A right-libertarian trying to call out scientists as nuts.
Here's one for ya Pete...Have US homeowners ever considered trying to use less energy?

Telling American homeowners to use less energy under such circumstances is like sneering at the costly power usage of Europeans to keep their homes heated during the dead of winter and telling them to cut back accordingly.
Why should we??
Energy is abundant and should be cheap.
The problem is that affordable and abundant energy leads to independence and prosperity - which is the last thing the global elite want.
Hence, the whole 'Global Warming/Climate Change' fraud.
What's your comment based on?
Quote:
Energy consumption in California is dominated by transportation, due to the high number of motor vehicles and long commutes. California also is responsible for about 20% of total jet fuel consumption in the United States. The second largest energy sector is industry. Energy consumption of the state's residential sector per capita is lower than that of any other state except Hawaii thanks to a relatively mild climate.[5]
Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant is going to be closed for several very good reasons.
Here's one for ya Pete...
China and India are the two largest CO2 emitters in the world... why don't you stop buying Chinese junk??

Shortages are being created artificially, which will lead to rationing, which of course leads to greater power for the government over the people.
The same gambit is being used to put pressure on food supplies, and all consumer goods.
Rationing is on page 1 of the authoritarian handbook.
Fools always fall for these manipulations - unfortunately, almost all of Europe and half of Americans (liberals, Democrats) meet that description.
