I'm Irish. Like Clint Eastwood in Gran Turino, I gotta keep up the ethnic hate!
I would personally worry about anyone who would celebrate sauerkraut.
I have a sudden craving for friend chicken.
I totally agree. We should call the "outrage" what it is - "POUTRAGE"I'm really starting to get sick and tired of all this outrage over "racist" events.
Every March we all dress in green, wear shamrocks, eat corned beef and cabbage and dye our beer green. People ENJOY it.
In May we eat Mexican food and drink margaritas. People ENJOY it.
How much longer do we have to suffer through this "outrage" before we can start celebrating Black history with soul food and Jazz?
Oh it could be worse. It could be Scottish.
France being in the south? With the obvious exception of France, pretty much all of Northern European food kind of sucks.
France being in the south?
Au contraire - we could be celebrating with this:

I understand the history, and the projection. And I also understand the hyper-sensitive, and the agenda of the PC crowd. If you don't, I'd suggest you learn it.
Eww. Well ok, I stand corrected on that score.Haggis!

I'm thinking about a pulled pork sandwich I didn't eat last night.
This thread is making me hungry.
I know; just joking. And the north. It's a big country. But yeah, its abutment on the Mediterranean probably explains why it has good food.

FYI
I know my own history. I try to politely give you some simple reason why people are upset that you chose to ignore. The selection of chicken and watermelon clearly states that this person didn't take any time to do research Black cultural cuisines.
By the way , I love how if it doesn't offend you then it is being hyper-sensitive.
They could make up for this public relations disaster by simply following it up with White History Lunch, in which white people appropriate ethnic food and make it really, really bland.
Who said you couldn't?
I go to numerous black food and jazz festivals all the time where it is multicultural and everyone is having a great time.
Nope it's origins is southern comfort food along with bisquits, cornbread, etc
Soul food origins came from the left over scraps that slave masters didn't want and gave to slaves. I'm willing to bet the southern slave owners loved some fried chicken
Not trying to be funny, but what is the primary dishes of White America?

Dude, if we can not only understand the history of the stereotypes and what they were used for, and put aside the PC problems, I have one basic question?
What did you expect when your facility is supposed to placate parents? That's what they are supposed to do on a regular basis. What they do not compromise on is curriculum and some matters of school policy and discipline. Otherwise, being politically correct is the reality of a public school. They try to placate the community, whether it is a conservative one, liberal one, or purple. They are very politically correct on a regular basis, and it's not just the racial minorities and the liberals they like.
When they make a screw up like this (which this is), guess what? Parents will complain.
I understand why people are upset.
What you're failing to understand yourself, is how something presumably innocent get's turned into something culturally insensitive and derogatory.
If you don't understand why that is a serious problem, then I suggest you need to think about it some more.
And FYI, telling me to learn something is not being polite. It is presumptive and dismissive. So you can step down from the pedestal.
Cheeseburgers, fries, chicken tenders, spaghetti, pizza, Mac and cheese.
I'm surrounded by Germans from Russia and Norwegians. It's freaky. Their heretic protestant ways ought to frighten every man, woman, and child...because their food is surprisingly addictive, once they show you what the Christ it is.
