Bush Immigration Reform

Hey all, I was hoping i could get some feedback/direction from you all if you wouldnt mind. Im doing an essay on why president bush was unable to persuade congress to pass immigration reform, and am unsure if i am heading in the right direction. As of right now, I am focusing on public opinion, the media, and political ideology. If any of you have any other suggestions on what a main reason was for his failure at getting immigration reform passed it would help me out much. Thanks for reading!
 
Too much focus on the amnesty part with little insurance to the enforcement and prevention aspect.

At the moment, the US political climate has pretty much had enough with giving illegal aliens more rights or easier methods to become citizens without putting down solid federal enforcement standards and policies towards keep illegals from entering in the first place. In a surprising show of how much power "the people" have over the government both republican and democrat citizens when given the facts on the bill stood together for once and exerted a heavy degree of pressure on their representitives to stay away from the bill.

Surprisingly what was considered an assured bet turned into a topic too hot to touch thereby sending the bill down in flames. Once realized how hot a topic, no other major effort was made to resurrect the bill. Both media commentators and Congressional representitives were shocked by the this.

Immigration is a touchy subject, and as you've probably noticed we haven't heard anything about it recently nor the supposed "wall" (or lack of) that was being built along the border.

Most likely because they all now know to do the opposite of what he wants to do.

There is the saying fool me ounce shame on you fool me twice shame on me. It applied to this so called immigration reform compromise bill. People were burned with the Reagan Amnesty and at that time we only had 3 million illegals. So the result of that is token enforcement and now we have 20 million plus illegals. Considering the laws we already have on the books against illegal immigration and their lack of enforcing those laws. So most people already knew that any promises of enforcement were hollow.
