I detect a pattern here folks, three threads in a row, all about some woman the OP is having issues with...........

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood on this one.

AOC on another one.

Bari Weiss on a third.

OR................... is it having issues with women in general?

You should NEVER trust the federal government to respect your basic rights and liberties, regardless of which party is in charge
Not the US.

Not my problem or concern at this juncture.

Big scared a woman said something you don’t like?

On Saturday, police arrested 500 people in London for protesting under banners that supported Palestine Action.

But the British government has also cracked down on anti-Palestinian speech. For example, police arrested and interrogated Yorkshire man Pete North in late September for sharing a meme several months ago that said, "**** Palestine. **** Hamas. **** Islam. Want to protest? **** off to Muslim country and protest." He was released without charge.

Both of these are examples of government overreach.

No surprise coming from a government that arrests people for anti-trans tweets.

You should NEVER trust the federal government to respect your basic rights and liberties, regardless of which party is in charge. They constantly trample on both and whatever excuse they can.

It's more complicated than you suggest. Mahmoud is trying to win back to Labour some of the voters lost to Reform.
Here is some background on her.

First, she's right - depending on the context. There are freedoms you have you should not use. But that statement could also be said, as it is in this case, to try to coerce you not to use freedoms there's no good reason you shouldn't use. The context is the question, not the statement.

Second, you should elect and demand a government you can trust to protect your freedoms. You need a government that does to protect them as we see now with trump who does not. And you state false equivalents, Democrats are a lot better about respecting freedoms generally, gun whining and hate speech aside. Most government doesn't constantly trample on freedoms. Current Republicans do.

I guess the UK's position is, quiet down, subjects!
Since 1981 Brits have been citizens not subjects.

Mahmood, a devout Muslim, says that Islam is her identity. Not country, not party, not government post. She is not "the UK" and only British on paper.

Since 1981 Brits have been citizens not subjects.
There remain at least 20,000 British subjects worldwide, according to Home Office passport issuance statistics. A current figure for subjects with or without a passport was not found after a brief query.

You’re way too obsessed with identity politics.

My problem with AOC is that she’s a radical Woke Socialist.

My problem with Bari Weiss is that she’s a NeoCon warmonger Israel-Firster.

My problem with Shabana Mahmood is that she thinks it’s fine for her government to run roughshod over people’s liberties.

I could care less that they’re women. I’ve gone after plenty of men on this forum.

"Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood implied that freedom is something the public shouldn't exercise freely if it bothers others. And the sentiment is bipartisan."

WOW.

I guess rock & roll won't play either..

"Feed your head.....remember what the doorknob said!"
