The choice of Judge Kavanaugh will galvanize Democrats and Republicans in the months before the midterm elections and set up a contentious nomination process. His long record of legal opinions and his work in fierce partisan battles is likely to offer Democrats plenty of ammunition for tough questions.

I am pleasantly surprised with Trump picking this judge over the others. Unlike the other 2 on his short list, this one is not a rabid ideologue, and I believe he will be impartial and uphold the constitution. He should be confirmed.

Finally, Trump does something I agree with him on. Good pick, Mr. President.

He'll vote to overturn RvW. Although, to be fair, there's no nomination that wouldn't overturn RvW.

I'm not so sure he will do that. He has already said that he would not go against settled law.

Sorry, he's cut from the same clothe as the others.

He'll say he respects precedent and whatnot, then show his true colors after he's confirmed, just like Alito and Roberts.

I'm not so sure he will do that. He has already said that he would not go against settled law.

He wouldn't get through the screening process if he wasn't a known factor on that subject. Also, remember that undocumented immigrant mother who wanted to have an abortion here? He's the one who voted that she shouldn't be able to. His dissent:

“After all, the Supreme Court has repeatedly said that the government has permissible interests in favoring fetal life, protecting the best interests of the minor, and not facilitating abortion, so long as the government does not impose an undue burden on the abortion decision.”

People are torturing themselves unnecessarily by thinking there's a ray of hope that Kavanaugh is a moderate of any kind. RvW is toast.

I got what I wanted... He is a brilliant pick, a true Constitutionalist.

I am so proud of my country right now.

:applaud goes to you President Trump!

Alito and Roberts have said the same stuff.

These guys are religious reactionaries, never forget that. They believe American law should be based off biblical moral codes and that's always reflected in their rulings.

Kavanaugh has also written that Presidents shouldn't be distracted by investigations, so if trump pardons himself or if Mueller tries indicting him, the Supreme Court will vote trump's way on both items.

I see what you're doing...
You can stop with the partisan fear mongering now.

RvW won't be overturned.

Instead, the conservative justices will chip away at it bit by bit.

No, he is not a moderate. He is a Conservative, and I applaud his selection. And yes, as long as the government does not impose an undue burden on the abortion decision, the courts should weigh in on minors making that decision. The law has already determined that minors are not mature enough to make many decisions. If a minor can make this decision on her own, then maybe we should let her drink alcohol. LOL. So yes, I agree with Kavanaugh's dissent in that case.

Hopefully...and there's absolutely nothing that the lefters can do about it!

and THAT'S why the 2016 election was so important for America!

Um, let's boldface the important parts here:

“After all, the Supreme Court has repeatedly said that the government has permissible interests in favoring fetal life, protecting the best interests of the minor, and not facilitating abortion, so long as the government does not impose an undue burden on the abortion decision.”

That's straight-up Pro-Life talk. If you can't see that, then I don't know what to tell you.

Also, Trump was specifically endorsed by the Christian Right for the list of possible SC nominees he agreed to. If you don't see that his nominations passed a rigorous RvW position process, then again, I don't know what to tell you.

Yes, I know. I quite specifically told everybody in a former post to move on to future strategies.

The Trump Cycle is now complete. I stopped taking Mr. Swampy seriously right after he said that women should be punished for having an abortion (if it is illegal). I thought that statement was ridiculous for a Presidential candidate to make. Why are you even talking about it?? What does that have to do with anything? Here the Trump Cycle is complete. I never thought it would happen, but now it has, and this is how it happened:

  1. Mr. Swampy throws out random BS claim or campaign slogan (unclear if he believes it or not)
  2. Mr. Swampy propaganda team comes up with four implausible scenarios about what he meant
  3. Mr. Swampy amazed that people are being brainwashed by his idiotic ideas on the campaign trail in 2015-2016
  4. Mr. Swampy is amazed he wins the election
  5. Mr. Swampy expects and is amazed idiotic Republicans keep sticking up for him and his stupid actions and/or words
  6. Mr. Swampy is amazed that the people around him are "doing such a great job."
  7. Mr. Swampy is amazed that liberal media is attacking said people for "doing such a great job."
  8. Mr. Swampy fires some people.
  9. Mr. Swampy is continued to be amazed by the people "doing such a great job."
  10. Mr. Swampy is amazed that random campaign slogans of his, are now reality.

Of course the reality is a little bit more complex.

I suppose it could have been worse, but it’s not a coincidence he picked the guy who believes the President should be immune from prosecution.

What part of "so long as the government does not impose an undue burden on the abortion decision" don't you understand?

Trump van appoint any conservative he wants and it would not be stopped. Any gop senator who voted against his pick will be unemployed at the end of their term

I have purposefully not followed any of the talking potato heads and their opinions of the possible picks, so I don't know anything about this guy except what Trump said about him (I didn't listen to the Judge's speech) and I notice that he appears relatively young. He'll be around for a long time.

I think he's a good pick. Liberals and Trump haters, of course, will disagree.

Trump isnt an ideolouge

If you think he's not going to vote to dismantle RvW, then all I can say to you is, "Warning: sharp learning curve ahead."

You really underestimate the sheer extent of the coup that trump's nomination represents.
