BREAKING: Gov. Inslee ordered closing of all K-12 schools, public and private, in three counties

All school districts here in my town have cancelled school, my daughter doesn't even have a return date yet. I really hope it's not until late April.

My spring break got extended by two days, and online classes will be a thing until April 6 (if they don't delay it further).

I don't think any school will remain open.

Quite honestly, given the situation on the ground there, I'm surprised it took as long as it did.

You applaud the governor's fascism, I see...ANTIFA!

Seems unlikely at this point. It's going to be nuts but better safe than sorry. I'll just have to crack my homeschooling whip out since my daughter doesn't have an online option.

"I'm here to teach ya some match, kiddies!" *crack*

:doh

Because infected kids have been found in the schools. Because the more mobile ANYONE is, the more the infection spreads. This virus is exceedingly communicable. Kids with immune disorders, etc can get sick. And then other kids take it home...to infants or elderly, the vulnerable people.

It's all about limiting the spread, period.

And it is very much about spreading the spread over a longer period. If,say, 20m people are infected over one month health services may be completely swamped (as they are in Italy); if the same number are infected over three months there is a better chance of intensive care facilities being available. This has been well explained to the UK public but not, as far as I know, to people in the US.

Thank you, that's a good clarification.

Oh geez, our incompetent snake of a governor strikes again. This should be flatly unconstitutional, but aside from that, it’s anti-science. Kids out of school for a month will not self quarantine. They will associate more with older relatives and with each other. It’s actually counterproductive.

Apparently you are anti-math. The numbers of others kids at home would be greatly reduced. And parents should be keeping them from playing with other kids in the neighborhood. The point is, each family reduce contact outside the home as much as possible...not all can do so completely but as many as possible will reduce that infection curve and save the lives of the more vulnerable.

Or is it like your attitude about poor people? "There will always be vulnerable people in our society*shrug*"

Are you insisting some magical day will arrive when we have zero vulnerable people in society?

Or for that matter are you insisting a day will arrive when there are no poor people? When will that be Lursa?

Of course not. Read better...I was referring to how you minimized the value of such people, merely because they'd always 'exist.'

And I note you are unable or unwilling to address my refutation (on transmission) of your earlier post.

You didn’t refute anything, you made something up.

Since the state is using substandard liberal indoc... I mean public education as child care for poorer people this means all these children who had been gathering for the last several weeks and who have been completely unaffected by corona virus will now be shuttled to older relatives to watch over during the day.

Inslee screwed up big and now he has to pretend like he’s taking this more seriously then trump so he’s just making this up as he goes. There is no basis for this action and I think school boards should be making these decisions

I actually think it’s time for civil disobedience. A March of thousands in Olympia in defiance of inslee

LMAO I just listened to The Donald's entire press conference and the questions after and what I wrote is exactly what the experts he brought up there said. They even addressed school closures as possible for other areas too.

So...is your authority god right or wrong?

Nothing better than an inoculation tube packed with hosts with propulsion that can spread the virus all over the world. The perfect Petri dish.

Best thing next to public schools!

Why would they do that? NY has twice as many cases as CA at this time.

Washington state and California together have what, 50%+ of the cases and 85% of the deaths? Add New York to the list as well, if you wish.

meantime, NYC mayor is going to keep them all open.

WTF!

we need one strategy for the nation, period

this is ridiculous

Why? Why in the world would West Virginia and Montana (with one case between them) respond the same as New York or Washington state?

??? I'm not sure what planet you live on but if you are self-quarantining, if people are working from home, if things are being cut back...good luck job hunting :doh

I see you are putting college sports ahead of people's lives. I think I get where you are coming from now.

In about 1948, measles, mumps and Chicken Pox were common childhood diseases, before vaccinations were developed. Older people who had never had the diseases, had to be careful not to get infected, because the diseases were rough on first timer, older people.

Seems similar to Covid-19, except there wasn't a panic, with closed schools, or cancelled sports events.

Very very wrong. Human populations had been exposed to all of those for hundreds or more years. Everyone had been exposed to them, genetically. They had all subsided from being highly lethal to attacking the more vulnerable of the populations.

I got ALL of those diseases before I was 5 yrs old...vaccines were not yet available. I survived but many young in the 60s didnt. And there was higher mortality for children than adults. Once vaccines were common, infections became so uncommon that the next generation(s) who hadnt been exposed became susceptible again. But all those diseases circulated among humans for hundreds/thousands of years and those diseases 'survived' because they adapted to their human hosts by not killing them, by becoming less virulent and killing fewer yet still infecting and sickening enough to survive.

It's hard to give you a beginner's guide to epidemiology because it's not that simple. I dont know what you have been reading, but you seem to have not understood it properly.

OMG

It's called containment.

Being proactive which as a country we were not.

Tough concept for many. Shocking to the educated like me but the masses often shock me.

Containment of what? If Washington and California and New York locked down their borders, most of the rest of the country would be safe and kids could still go to school in Montana.

i hope you are not serious but i fear you are a typical trumpet

What in the world? You really think that Trump would formulate a plan that works equally well across a nation of 320 million people that would be better than each state assessing their own needs and taking action based on their individual situation?

I can't wrap my head around the idea that because New York and Washington can't contain their outbreaks that kids in Montana should be held out of school.
