Breakfast

Possibly my favorite meal of the day, definitely the most important for me and a time for me to greet, relax and plan my day.

I need to have a great foundation and it starts with Oatmeal.

I celebrate the Oat and have been eating in the following way for many years.

I prepare whole oats, with 1% milk, sometimes honey or Splenda and pure vanilla. Once cooked I let it "set" for a few minutes with walnuts....then enjoy. I eat it right out of the pot I cook it in.

Also some qualities include:

  • Oatmeal is a whole-grain food, a healthier option than sugary, processed breakfast cereals or toasted bread made from refined flour stripped of nutrients.
  • The dietary fiber in oatmeal has a host of health benefits, especially if you include it as a regular part of your daily diet. Fiber-rich whole grains like oatmeal can reduce the risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol levels. Oatmeal can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, because its fiber content makes you feel full without a lot of calories.
  • The B vitamins in oatmeal include niacin, thiamine and riboflavin, all of which help maintain a healthy nervous system and regulate metabolism by assisting with your body's release of energy from carbohydrates, protein and fat. The B vitamin folate, too, plays a part in the nervous system and metabolism, while it also helps in the production of red blood cells. Iron is essential for carrying oxygen in the blood. Magnesium helps build bones and release energy from your muscles, while selenium aids with a healthy immune system and protects your cells from oxidation

Oatmeal For Breakfast?

What are your some of your favorite breakfasts?

Most of the time breakfast is a bowl of milk and cereal. Other times its one of the following-

Hash browns,eggs and sausage

Sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich cooked similar to grilled cheese sandwich and with some Franks Red Hot sauce.

Sausage,egg and cheese biscuit sandwich.

Sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich made with with a arepa instead of a biscuit or sandwich bread and some Franks Red Hot sauce.

French toast.

Cheesy grits or some other flavor of grits.

Flavored instant Oatmeal

My usual breakfast (assuming I have the time) consists of egg whites with vegan sausage, and oatmeal with vanilla soymilk and ideally some fresh fruit (usually strawberries or blueberries, sometimes both).

On decadent Saturdays, I'll sometimes have (in a restaurant) Eggs Benedict...but with a cheese sauce instead of Hollandaise. Denny's makes it perfect. OMG. My mouth is watering. Is it Saturday yet?

English Muffin
Ham or Canadian Bacon
Poached Egg
Cheese Sauce
Heart Attack

My current diet, which I have every morning, calls for:

1 cup egg whites
3 large eggs
1 cup spinach
1 oz sharp cheddar

I scramble these, because it's easier to make and I like it better, and serve with some fresh cut pineapple on the side. Then have my vitamins with water and a green tea. I absolutely love my breakfast.

How many eggs to get 1 cup of egg whites? Plus 3 large eggs, WOW! Sounds like alot of eggs dude.

my favorite :

oikos caramel yogurt
1 med egg prepared with turmeric
2 slices toast w/ cinnamon and splenda
1 serving (1/4 cup) light maple syrup on toast

For me it's a sage sausage and cheese omelette with pico de gallo over the top and spicy spring potatoes on the side. Orange juice and coffee with it. Yum! I could eat that any time of the day.

I love me some good oatmeal, especially for something quick and easy.

I still often crave the old standard heart attack breakfast at times, though... over-easy eggs, hash browns, sausage and/or bacon, toast. Mix the eggs and hash browns together... yum! (Country fried steak on occasion.)

This is when I have breakfast, which isn't often.

I love breakfast!!!! Sometimes I even have breakfast for dinner!

1 egg over medium on top of hashbrowns, 2 strips bacon, 1 slice toast with jelly or jam. Every day, for over 40 years.

It's also great in a latte, if (like me) you have an espresso maker at home. Way better than milk, and healthier to boot.

Soymilk is gross. Nothing beats whole milk. Nothing beats milk right from the cow.

That's just some good livin' there.

Vanilla soymilk is absolutely incredible.

I was enjoying that for a while before I learned that soymilk isn't such a great idea for middle-aged men. Affects the testosterone level (which in middle-age is already dropping). I switched to vanilla Almond milk. It has the opposite affect of raising testosterone level.

when i was in afghanistan i studied different foods that increase or decrease testosterone for weightlifting.you would be shocked to now half the food people eat either raises estrogen or contains an ingredient that acts like estrogen.i even found out most deodorants can affect testosterone levels, low fat diets also effect it,since the male body needs fats and protien to produce correct testosterone levels.

but on the breakfast subject bacon some eggs some grits some home made haystack potatos, and a biscuit with some butter.also i save the bacon grease to make gravy for biscuits and gravy every so often.

Yeah, I find myself eating mostly proteins. Carbos just don't do it for me much, unless it's spaghetti or Garlic bread. A nice ribeye cooked medium is like nirvana to me.

I read that soymilk produces an estrogen-like hormone in the male body. In small amounts, it's fine. But I read about a guy who was drinking several pints of soy milk per day. He started growing breasts and almost lost his sex drive. Bad news. On the other hand, soymilk can be good for men over 60, since it drastically reduces the chance of prostate cancer. Like always, it's a question of balance.
