Brazil tariff

It's not JUST that....it's his tariffs (especially on Brazil imports) clash with his domestic policy goals.

Put simply, Brazil will retaliate with its own tariffs on US imports....one of which is coal. Indeed, Brazil imports (from the US) about 7-8% of the US's total coal exports. So Brazil is a major market for US domestic coal producers.

You know, coal, the domestic industry Trump is trying to revive/grow.

The result will be a smaller international coal market for US coal producers.

Oh it may well be much worse. Brazil could decide to convert those Coal Plants to Oil, and use Domestically produced Oil to run the boilers.

Hmm… should the court (meaning any federal judge) be able to decide what does or doesn’t constitute an ‘emergency’?
Yes. Otherwise the Constitution is a dead letter.

America will never get all of the respect back that they have lost as a result of Trumps idiocy.

It's hard to come back from some of the things he is doing.
Right, and that's because there will still be the same caliber of people who elected someone like him twice.

Yes. Otherwise the Constitution is a dead letter.

The odds are high that at least one of the many (680?) federal judge’s would disagree with what the POTUS decides is an ‘emergency’.

Yes.

Should you keep trying to derail threads with barely relevant tangents?

Is the USA being led by the Queen of Hearts?
Oh, we've known for a long time that El Jefe is a petty, thin-skinned child.

In this case, though, he's obviously whacking Brazil with tariffs because he's a bully, and he supports his fellow autocrats.

By the way, Brazil has a trade surplus with the US, and as noted, China is their largest trading partner. There's no economic justification whatsoever for such extortionate tariffs.

So, Trump can just decide something is an emergency now and we all just have to accept it?
Is the Labour Party winning the UK election an emergency for the US if Trump says so?

So how does what Brazil is doing make tariffs on Brazil a national emergency? Without some sort of 'national emergency', what authority does Trump have to introduce the tariff he is proposing? Doesn't that authority sit with congress?

We had a trade surplus with Brazil, so the national emergency that Tariffs can "fix" is that Brazil is prosecuting their criminal politicians and Trump wants none of that.

Isn't it refreshing to know that some of us may have to pay more for coffee and perhaps cocoa because Trump is able to levy tariffs! We get to pay more in his whims.
