Boris Johnson says Britain could send tanks to Ukraine and says Muscovy is 'targeting civilians'

Excellent speech from Boris Johnson of UK. Thanks for UK's and Germany's working together on security for Ukraine and the world against Putin and his horde . The fastest way to end the war and to prevent further economic damage to Europe and to end the humanitarian crisis is for Ukraine to win. To enable that, the NATO needs to send offensive weapons, defensive weapons, or whatever Ukraine needs ASAP. Sometimes, the "right" thing to do is also the most pragmatic thing to do. This is one of those times.

Ukraine, use these AS-90s as part of your offensive to drive Russia out of Ukraine along with the thermobaric missile launchers that you captured from the genocidal Russian's.

IMO, Britain could ship all its Challenger 2 tanks and all its Warriors, and urgently replace them with M1's and Boxers.

That is a problem.
It's why we can't just decide to gift Ukraine half our airforce even if we wanted to as they'd need months or even years of training to fly the things anyway.

Yep... Easy to send anti aircraft rockets and guns...but the big stuff, even armoured vehicles, require specialist training.....unlike the Russian stuff.

Modern combat aircraft need loads of maintenance and ground crew and let's say the US just gave Ukraine 30 F-22s do you honestly think they could be combat-ready any time soon?
Even simple things like having the appropriate hangers to keep them in so that maintenance can start is a big project.

Not something they can just quickly bodge in a few months.
Even for the RAF in a country at peace, it took years to get the F-35 facilities ready and personnel trained to operate the F-35 and we had the advantage of being the only level 1 partner in the project.

Tanks are pretty universal when it comes to figuring out how to operate them. Combat aircraft are another matter.

We may be approaching the inevitable situation where Polish territory has to be set up as rear bases for the Ukrainian Army. There they can set up training camps, inventory for planes, as well as airports from which those planes can fly missions into Ukraine. This is inevitable because shipping them across the border into a Ukraine which still has to secure air defense only exposes the arms deliveries to Russian destruction

Then train them, it's not exactly rocket science to learn how to drive a Warrior or Challenger - the hard part is maintaining them

Britain is already sending Mastiff protected vehicles Btw:

Australia is sending Bushmaster APCs:

And Germany is sending PzH-2000:

I guess "brilliant" ideas are the fashion right now !!!

Well that might just have changed

Shock action is not possible against a well prepared/equipped enemy any more
It was one thing for the US and allies to use tanks in operation Desert Storm or the invasion of Iraq, it's quite another using them against a capable enemy

I'm reminded of French knights at Crecy in 1315. The archers of the English army ended the hegemony of heavy cavalry in direct shock action
The same can now be said of tanks

What is a tank (Main Battle Tank that is) but an armored, tracked, direct artillery system ?
IMO, the future of the MBT is to combine with the Self Propelled Gun (SPG) to offer an artillery system, capable of both direct and indirect fire.
