When it rains it pours. And, for CBP, Trump brought on a monsoon.

We all know about Mike Pence’s disastrous trip to the BP "detention facility" in Texas. A planned photo op gone awry.. ...to say the least.

Add to that Helga, the commandant of CBP getting caught lying about the racist Facebook group—a group that the chief of the Border Patrol evidently was a member of herself—and news of the commemorative coin, the one mocking the idea of taking care of children and migrants. Yes, that coin. And, we can see just how beleaguered the agency has been since the Trump took over.

But, truth be told, the CBP has been a mess for a long time.

Why?

Well...

The problems underlying CPB’s almost theatrical failures trace back to its creation amid the post-9/11 reorganization of the Department of Homeland Security and have been exacerbated by a long-standing failure of leadership that goes up to both Congress and the White House and has lasted through three administrations. Both the modern Border Patrol and its parent CBP have been plagued by poor leadership and management at all levels, and by recruiting challenges that have left them with a subpar, overstressed workforce and a long-running toxic culture.

Most Border Patrol agents serving today signed up for a tough job in a quasi-military agency protecting the country against terrorists and drug dealers. They’ve found themselves instead serving as a more mundane humanitarian agency—the nation’s front-line greeter for families of migrants all too happy to surrender themselves after crossing the border.

So, when you hear about CBP doing more than they should, blame those who turned them into Wal-Mart greeters instead of an anti-drug, anti-terror organization. And, who exactly was it that did that?

Oh, that would be Trump and his poorly run administration, of course.

Case in point:
The latest bad headlines have come even as the promises made by candidate Donald Trump to invest in the Border Patrol have not been fulfilled; far from an increase of thousands of agents, the agency is actually now smaller than it was under President Barack Obama.

CBP needs a complete overhaul, They need resources and better backing than what they have gotten, I wouldn't blame one person for this though. It seems to me that this problem has been there for a long time. I think it is getting more attention now so that is why you are seeing more problems.

The problem has been ongoing, as was pointed out in the article. But, only one person has dumped everything on them and refused to provide them with the support he promised: Mr. Trump. And, that too was pointed out in the article.

To provide support, he needs Congress to pass a spending bill giving them money. And the Democrats refuse to do it.

Well it was more a breakout of issues in South America that created an influx of refugees, cartels causing problems in Mexico. Trump is pushing for more control on the border which is probably one of the few things I agree with him about. He is dealing with it badly and it is causing more problems. But this has been an issue for 40 years. To try and blame it all on one person is dishonest at the least.

.... He is dealing with it badly and it is causing more problems. ....

That is true, and it's a big impediment to solutions.

His supporters say "at least he's trying" ... but he's making things worse. Far from being a consummate deal-maker he is going about his faux "solutions" in ways which make it almost impossible for a Democrat to join with him, and even a lot of Republicans are keeping their distance, unwilling to push legislation for him, and occasionally rebuking him.

I think it is up to the Democrats that currently control the house to come up with new bills to push money and regulations forth to help the current problems. They may need to compromise with added money to his stupid wall but at this point the $4.5 bil that was put up might just be a stop gap for a few months.

No one should have allowed privatized detention centers.

and then, there's also the giant issue of ICE, as well, created during that time frame under W Bush expressly to round up "Mexican-looking people" and get them the hell out of our country.

Uh, he diverted money from the budget he had in hand to build his stupid wall. How have you missed that?
