CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) -- A black police officer who was at Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s home when the black Harvard scholar was arrested says he fully supports how his white fellow officer handled the situation.
Sgt. Leon Lashley says Gates was probably tired and surprised when Sgt. James Crowley demanded identification from him as officers investigated a report of a burglary. Lashley says Gates' reaction to Crowley was "a little bit stranger than it should have been."
Asked if Gates should have been arrested, Lashley said supported Crowley "100 percent."
Gates has said he was the victim of racial profiling.
President Barack Obama says the officers "acted stupidly." Lashley called Obama's remark "unfortunate" and said he should be allowed to take it back.
Can't say as I argue with that.Obama should be forced by public pressure and opinion to apologize on National TV.
Can't say as I argue with that.
Dear Leader put his foot in his mouth, and the procedure to extricate that foot involves apologizing to Sergeant Crowley.
This should put to rest the BS about the arresting officer being the racist.
In this story there are two racists Obama and Gates.
Obama should be forced by public pressure and opinion to apologize on National TV.
No wonder Dear Leader doesn't care about the Cambridge PD.....they had the temerity to support his opponent last fall. Calling them stupid now is just political payback, apparently."I think the Fraternal Order of Police endorsed McCain," Gibbs fired back, referring to Obama's Republican opponent in the 2008 election. "If I'm not mistaken."
When a reporter pointed out that Obama had won the support of the Policemen's Benevolent Association, Gibbs conceded: "We got some."
I do not think the officer was racist, I just think that cops too often abuse their authority and use BS charges like disorderly conduct to arrest people who piss them off. Arresting a guy for ranting on his own property is crossing the line in breaking rights of Americans.

(Side note: Dear Leader, you need to fire your media mouthpiece Gibbs....he is so not helping you in this)
This is definitely the case. It's absolutely mind-boggling that people are supporting the arrest of Gates on his own property for doing what he did.
Piff.
If GWB had done something like this, the Obamanistas would have screamed for his resignation.
Well, this officers opinion is certainly different than that of his employer, Cambridge PD, who have not only decided against persuing charges on this matter but have called the hole matter "regretable" and have said it should not be seen as demeaning Gates' character.
Not to mention that the officer in question stated that he believed he was dealing with a home-owner after presented with Gates' idea, yet continued to escalate the situation. Gates was right in refusing the officer entry to his home; under US law, officers CANNOT demand entry to your home without a warrant. Good on the professor for exercising the few rights Americans still have regarding privacy and property.

I watch cops alot and see many times cops taking down disorderly behavior in people's house all the time. They have to deal with people, on their own property or not, who may or may not at any given time pull a weapon on them. They have the authority to do what they have to do to not get to that situation. Gates was in the police report as starting to get aggressive so they nipped it in the butt and took him into custody- seems pretty standard procedure to me. It wouldn't have happened if he cooperated, simple as that.

Can you imagine if Bush had called an officer "stupid"? MSNBC would have led with it every night until the next election. Instead, they'll bury this is a week.
I think this will haunt Obama for the rest of his presidency. He nothing more than another Al Sharpton from here on.
And I have seen police use unnecessary force, provoke people into getting worked up and exacerbating situations, lie in order to attempt to gain the power they need to do what they want, etc... etc... The fact of the matter is that Gates did not have to comply with the officers because it was his damn property; all that he was required by law to do was identify himself, which he did.
Funny you should say that. MSNBC was addressing what Obama said last night, and based on my understanding, it disagreed with what Obama had done. But I guess that would take away your little rant, wouldn't it?
Sigh. Yet another person who hasn't read the police report. Oh, that's right--it's full of lie
The whole matter was regrettable. Don't think anyone really argues that. Gates may be a race-baiting blowhard, but I haven't seen anyone arguing he's a scuzz-bucket criminal lowlife, either. Getting arrested for going full retard on a cop means little more than Gates had a bad day. I can't count the number of times I've had to bail friends out of jail because they've had similarly bad days, and I've never thought less of them because of it.Well, this officers opinion is certainly different than that of his employer, Cambridge PD, who have not only decided against persuing charges on this matter but have called the hole matter "regretable" and have said it should not be seen as demeaning Gates' character.

People seem to think that just because you're on or around your own property, you seem to be able to do whatever the hell you want. Hello?
lol, it seems every black man they find to interview on the news shows agrees it was not a racist thing. For once people, president discluded, are seeing the truth and facts in the case.
My husband almost got arrested when he argued with a cop after we called them to our house. He wanted them to do more than they were doing and they didn't want to hear it and told him to calm down or be arrested. So he calmed down and they didn't arrest him. I'm sure it was due to the fact he's Mexican though. :doh:2razz:
There's not a place in the US where a person can stand outside, even on their own property, and yell at people and call them racist.Did he infringe on the rights of others? No, so as long as that is not breached, he sure as hell can do whatever he wants on his own property. This is America, not China or the Soviet Union.
I actually have read the police report and, while being unreasonable, Gates nowhere broke the law. It's not illegal to yell at someone from your porch.
