Black man kicked out of yogurt shop says police and store apologies aren't enough

Actually I wouldn't have been pissed. Even when I was arrested I never got pissed. I never even got pissed many years later when cops stopped me walking on the sidewalk because I "looked suspicious" and they frisked me even though I had done nothing more than walk.

You see, I don't get pissed at cops for interacting with me because I know they're just doing their jobs. In fact more often than not lately I find it amusing. The last time I got stopped was because I had left my brights on when driving through town. The cop said it was a sign that I was drunk. Doubted him but  oh well. He then proceeded to try and claim that he smelled marijuana...I literally laughed in his face (I don't smoke it)...which he didn't particularly like. So I said go for it, bring the K9 unit and have em check out my van. Cop left.

Oh, I'm not saying he should be pissed at the cops. His beef is with the store, the workers and the manager. The ones who treated him like **** for no reason other than his skin colour made them nervous.
If I was that guy this wouldn't die quietly. And I bet he gets his pound of flesh.

Qualification- if information we don't have now comes to light all bets are off.

Your story doesn't make any sense.

It happened. But I get it.

White people get asked to leave a business when not purchasing something it rarely shows up in the news, so it make no sense to you.

A black person is asked to leave a business when not purchasing, its racist and national news.

They probably both happen in about the same numbers, but one rarely gets reported so you do not believe t happens.

It's like that pool guy, adam, in the news a while ago. He claimed he had asked white people to leave the pool before. That never made news. But he asked a black lady to leave and it became national news and racist.

They called the cops on you, and never explained why?

You have to know why.

No, the employees never said a thing to us. I didn't even realize we were a problem. First I knew there was an issue was with the short interaction with the cops. After explaining what occurred and hoping they would say OK you can stay in the warm, they told us to leave and we left to the parking lot in the snow storm. They only said something to the effect of the employee thought you were up to no good. Shocked me, because I don't look like a criminal and my friend was preppy - for lack of a better term. I wasn't even 135 pounds at the time. My friend was tall, though. It's possible the place had seen crime recently (such as this yogurt store in the OP)- not likely in the area we were in, but who knows.

It happens to white people and it happens to blacks. Every so often it will be in the news, such as the pregnant white woman that was denied bathroom use at Starbucks without buying something. But it never becomes national and doesn't cause nearly the uproar and often only comes out when a black individual that is not a customer is prevented from using the bathroom at the same Starbucks to show the rule is applied to white and black.

Except that his skin color had nothing to do with what happened.

Previous bad experiences with other customers combined with him sitting there and not ordering anything while looking at his phone and them as if waiting for something specific to happen all combined into a valid fear by the two women. You, and him, are just assuming that the cops were called because of his skin color. Because well..."RACISM!" is the order of the day where anything and everything that is ever done MUST be because of skin color.

Not being allowed to use a bathroom is very common. Calling the police on somebody for not placing an order before asking to use the bathroom is another matter.

What you're describing is not a common occurrence for innocent white people. And IDK how they could just look at you and think you were up to no good and had no business being there, or as you, just trying to stay warm... haha... As a teen, I remember going into stores and looking around, especially at the mall, and with my friends. Most of the time, we were not buying anything. Being up to no good or loitering is a lot different than looking around.

unless you can PROVE someone did something with racist intent , then I don't care who you are, you should have to follow the rules just like everyone else, or pay the consequences.. whether that means being asked to leave, or being thought dangerous and having the cops come talk to you does not matter. both are rational and justified reactions to someone who purposely does not follow the totally sensible and appropriate rules.
he was not harmed by talking to the police was he? if not, then unless there is something very damning showing racist intent, there is no harm nor foul here, imho.

this is sensible, this is fairness. you cannot possibly judge such things fairly in any other way, no matter what you choose to believe or your opinion.

It's also not a common occurence for black people in modern times. It happens to both races.

As noted earlier, Adam the pool guy said he had previously told white people to leave. So, it happens. You just don't hear about it.

I think that's their choice. Of course, the police would still be curious what reason the business had for assuming me to be violent. And of course the business might risk the possibility that the police would consider the manager to be hysterical, and be less likely to prioritize their calls in the future.

And of course the business would risk looking hostile to patrons, with future patrons fearing that if they didn't order something quickly enough then the cops might be called on them too.

Again, this is all entirely the prerogative of the business. Speaking just for myself, I would never eat at a restaurant where the manager's first step was to call the police on someone just for sitting there.

The employees probably exactly as they were trained. If they see something suspicious you call the police you don’t try to handle it yourself. We have the same policy where I work. We receive safety training twice a year for the local police and fire departments. Rule number 1, don’t try to handle anything on your own. You have no idea what how the situation could escalate.

Correct, if he were white they wouldn't have called the cops.

Untrue. I wouldn't care what color, if a guy has been sitting there for that long looking sketchy like that, I'm calling. Ya know, see something, say something.

If I sat in a restaurant and didn't order anything, I would expect a waiter or manager to eventually approach me and ask if there's anything I'd like to order. And if I said no, I'd expect them to politely (but firmly) inform me that they're a business for paying customers, and that if I don't order anything then I should go. What I would not expect is for them to call the cops on me as a first step. The notion that that would happen to me is crazypants.

I think it's crazypants for someone to to think they can just sit in a restaurant and not order anything.

An all female staff (2 workers) at a restaurant where a man is sitting in a corner by himself for 30 minutes. He doesn't want yogurt and he keeps looking at his phone then staring at another table (mother and adult son sitting). The staff have been robbed in the past and the bathrooms see frequent homeless drug use. Suspicious. Had the man been white, no issues with the staff calling the cops to ask the man to move along and we never would have even heard of the incident.

But this man is black, so of course.. It becomes a big incident. With the man that was asked to leave saying the only way he can feel safe is if the city takes the Hispanic male owner's (who was not even there at the time) license away and allows him (the victim) to take the license and ensures he has enough capital to purchase the yogurt shop and two other business the owner has.

I've told this story in the past. I've been asked to leave a business before, while I waited for a friend's dad to pick me up after my friend and I got stuck in a winter storm. So, this certainly is not uncommon.

Sounds like a set up. It's the 'in' thing to do now.

Because it is NOT NORMAL for someone to go into a restaurant and sit at a table for 30 minutes without ordering something.

Well, maybe if he'd been asked he would have, d'ya think?
The guy was treated like crap, for no reason other than him being black made the two workers nervous, and you can say all you want that race had nothing to do with it but if so, what did? Why were the cops called? Because the idiots working there were too scared to even talk to him? No, nothing racial about it.
Know what's the worst thing here? It's ordinary.
Nothing to see here. Much ado about nothing.
Tell you what, if it had been me this wouldn't die. I'd be pushing this as far as I could, making as big a stink as I could, and I bet so would you.

Why do you think that is?

Where do you get your 'facts'? What makes you say the 'guy was treated like crap' Like every other race baiting leftist, you WANT this story to be about race so you make crap up to fit your narrative. Cant you guys ever discuss anything honestly? Anything?

You cannot know that. Invention of an imaginary fact makes no contribution to a debate.

Everyone knows that these two racist women would have allowed a creepy looking white guy to sit in a booth without ordering all day long. Hell, they probably would have brought him free food and just overcharged the black people to cover his bill. Every white person is racist nowadays and every black person a victim. Liberals have to push that lie to keep their black base distracted; lest they learn how destructive liberalism has truly been to their well-being.

That's exactly what the police tell you to do. Rather than create a sticky situation, call us. We'll handle it.

That is what the store owner's lawyers tell you to do.
