I don't believe Musk's story about his friend's daughters who went to school in the bay area and the only thing that they were taught about George Washington was that he was a slave owner.

I think that he made that story up on the spot. It doesn't seem real and Musk is well known to be a liar.

So his example of the "woke mind virus" is nonexistent. Maybe the mind virus is actually anti wokeness. It is the mind virus that gives racists and fascists a platform to amplify their speech because of a misplaced sense that that is "free speech"

I saw the show, and thought that was a load of nonsense either. Whether or not that's what she remembered is a whole other story, but I doubt that's what the focus of the lesson was. I must say, I was pretty surprised by how much deference he gave Musk; it was more than what he usually does for people whom he admires. I have no issue with respecting people who accomplish things, but I am not on the side of putting them on pedestals because in the end they are just people, and can be flawed in a variety of ways.

What's been interesting is how the concept of "stay woke" has morphed into this clumsy nonsense currently pushed around by those who resist different aspects of it. I think it's far better to focus and address specific issues and concepts individually than attempting to lump them all into one concept, because that oversimplifies and reduces whatever issue gets lumped into it. Maher's taking the easy way out by just lumping things in terms like "woke mind virus"; I find that one pretty daft. The heart of the discussion is really around the new concepts the younger generations are advocating and the resistance by those who are not ready to accept them yet. Delving into that dynamic is far more useful in my opinion, rather than just using derisive terms like "woke mind virus" that just shuts down the actual discussion.

Books are being banned by the government for political reasons. That is dangerous. A private entity should ban misinformation and hate speech because it cares about the quality of its product, and its customers should demand that quality.

Which brings us back to the question you ignored in the post you responded to. Why would anyone want it?
