Biggest Loser?

I generally agree with that but I would like some new ideas and maybe get motivated a bit more. It could be a good tool.

If you want motivation, hire a prostitute to run away from you, and then, if you catch her, you can have sex with her, but make sure she can run faster than you so you get exercise.

Figure out why you aren't motivated.

My rule of thumb with weight is a checklist

1. Is my weight below the point where it starts becoming a serious health concern?
2. Do I feel good physically?
3. Do I feel good about my appearance?

If the answers to any of those questions are no, then I need to lose weight. I'm a little round in the belly, but I'm ok with that. My quality of life is more than the flatness of my abs :)

So do not have her wear 6 inch stilleto's. a tight silver miniskirt, a bikini top and a feather boa when you are chasing her? But then how are you to know you are chasing a prostitute rather then just some woman on the street?

You are in Northern Il correct? Not sure how close you are to Chicago, but there is a L.A. Boxing Gym on the north side.

I dont have health insurance lol

This is a non-competitive gym (the business plan is not to profit from building fighters). They do have MMA and Boxing classes that focus on true combat training, but this is an extra.

Im getting a bit chunky so Im thinking about getting some stuff to assist in the weight loss. Does anyone have an opnion on any of the products that are associated with The Biggest Loser? The Biggest Loser Store | Biggest Loser Merchandise - NBC

Not sure if I should get a DVD and / or recipe book. :unsure13:

Those things are all unnecessary gimmicks, designed to make money for the people who sell them. Nothing wrong with capitalism, but why spend money on these things you don't need?

Eat a lot more vegetables and rice. Eat very little meat, chicken, fish, and the dreaded dairy. Its not sexy or exciting, but it works. You will lose weight and be healthier.

Burn more calories than you take in. However you can do it. Figure out what your daily caloric intake should be at, and adjust your diet to take in a couple hundred less, then exercise away another couple hundred. Get a Mio or something to monitor your heart rate and track calories burned, and hit a gym to get some cardio in.

I was told to NOT eat rice. Also to eat more meat and protiens.

Who in the hell told you not to eat rice? Doesn't make sense.

And if you eat the western diet, you get plenty of protein. Most of us get way more protein than we need.

If you burn more calories than you take in you will lose weight. You can eat what you like if you are willing to account for it. The question is how much are you trying to lose and how quickly do you want to lose it. Have you figured out what your daily caloric intake should be at? Are you willing to exercise and burn calories or are you simply looking at diet control to address your weight?

Diet should always come first. People make this issue too complicated. If you eat a lot of vegetables and grains and fruit, and leave out most of the high fat stuff, you will be healthier and thinner.

Diet and weight loss philosophy...ahhhh I love it! If you take in more calories than you burn, regardless of the source or its nutritional quality, you will not lose weight. Now I have no argument with "eating healthy." I cut soda and greatly reduced my intake of junk food...I drink lots and lots of water. You certainly want to reduce the amount of artery clogging, plaque buidling foods as you can. But the bottom line is you have to get to your body to a point that you are burning more than you take in if you want to lose weight. The problem with "diets" are that most people think they have to eat rabbit food in order "eat right." They quickly begin to hate the diet and don't stick with it. Eating foods you love is still possible, you just have to use common sense if you want to eat those foods and lose weight. Portion control and exercise. Account for it. Reduce your intake levels and work to burn calories. It's so not complicated it's silly. Cardio is fantastic for this strategy. Get on a treadmill, an elliptical, a bike, or a stair master and get your heart rate up for 25 to 45 minutes (depending upon your goal). People of nearly any age or physical fitness level can do get into a decent cardio routine that is low to no impact and burn fat. You can ease into it and work your way to a healthy body.

I'm not talking about 'dieting.' I'm talking about eating right, high volume-low fat, that type of thing. That should be done regardless of exercise. You can still eat foods you love, but if they are unhealthy foods, eat them rarely. Try to eat the healthy foods you love every day. Its much easier to burn more that you take in if you don't take in a bunch of high fat stuff.

Also, if you eat healthier foods, portion control isn't much of an issue. Your hunger drive works great with low fat food.

Seems to me people beat their heads against a rock trying to figure out how to be healthier but won't avoid the fat and candy.

I know, I know...we don't call it "diet" anymore because it's associated with mass failure. We call it a lifestyle change and what not. Whatever we want to call it you have to change eating habits, on that I think we both agree. But there is simply no reason a person can't enjoy some "unhealthy" foods if you will. It's all compromise based upon what you are trying to accomplish. I don't actually like many vegetables and only a select number of fruits. I wanted to lose weight but still enjoy my life, to include my diet. So my compromise was to cut out soft drinks, greatly reduce my intake of candy and fried foods, and exercise regularly.

Variety is the spice of life...remember that saying? It's especially fitting when it comes to a persons diet. You eat to live, but there is no reason you can't enjoy what you eat...even if that includes fried chicken, steak, Snickers bars, beer, and pretzels. Just don't eat it all the time, and when you do eat in moderation. And exercise. You'll be fine in terms of your health as it's impacted by your diet.

My thoughts anyway.

Loser diet? Buy some amphetamine.

That's weird because I was on a high meat (mostly chicken) and high carb diet by virtue of being poor and I lost a lot of weight. I also had a 40 hour a week job that involved CONSTANT walking so I'm sure that contributed.

I don't understand - high meat and high carb? So, it couldn't have been that Adkins thing, right?

Also, regarding being poor, the healthiest foods are cheap: rice, potatoes, lentils, beans, etc.

We're repeating each other on some details.

I prefer fatty and unhealthy foods too, but its important to me to keep my heart healthy, so I avoid those foods a lot of the time. And I like variety too. But what I think is important is the basis of one's diet should be healthy low-fat foods with a good amount of fiber. The more fattening foods should be a treat here and there.

If it was Atkins, it wasnt intentional.

I can get about 2 weeks of dinner out of a $9 bag of frozen chicken breasts AND Manager's Special meats are GREAT if you cook them the day you buy them. Ground turkey is (for some reason) cheaper than ground beef and better for you.

Ground turkey can be healthier (less unhealthy) than ground beef, but not here:

Ground Beef
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Beef, ground, 70% lean meat / 30% fat, raw

It depends on the brand and other details. Both are very high in cholesterol, and have 1 gram of trans fat (which is a lot of trans fat).
