Great news for Biden to start off the campaign.

A son and a brother of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) are accused in two lawsuits of defrauding a former business partner and an investor of millions of dollars in a hedge fund deal that went sour, court records show.

The Democratic vice presidential candidate's son Hunter, 38, and brother James, 59, assert instead that their former partner defrauded them by misrepresenting his experience in the hedge fund industry and recommending that they hire a lawyer with felony convictions.

The legal actions have been playing out in New York State Supreme Court since 2007, and they focus on Hunter and James Biden's involvement in Paradigm Companies LLC, a hedge fund group. Hunter Biden, a Washington lobbyist, briefly served as president of the firm.

A lawsuit filed by their former partner Anthony Lotito Jr. asserts in court papers that the deal was crafted to get Hunter Biden out of lobbying because his father was concerned about the impact it would have on his bid for the White House. Biden was running for the Democratic nomination at the time the suit was filed.

Hunter Biden was made president with an annual salary of $1.2 million, despite his inexperience in the hedge fund industry, the lawsuit said. Before that, he had been part of the Washington law firm Oldaker, Biden & Belair, which earned $1.76 million in lobbying revenue in the first half of 2006, according to Congressional Quarterly's CQ MoneyLine. One of its biggest clients is the National Association of Shareholder and Consumer Attorneys, a District-based group representing law firms specializing in investment and corporate law.

Lotito's lawsuit alleges that James Biden called him in January 2006 to arrange a job for Hunter Biden. It says James Biden told him that his brother (Sen. Biden) "was concerned with the impact that Hunter's lobbying activities might have on his expected campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination," and, "Biden told Lotito that, in light of these concerns, his brother had asked him to seek Lotito's assistance in finding employment for Hunter in a non-lobbying capacity."

And if one lawsuit wasn't bad enough...

In the second lawsuit against the Bidens, which was filed in June, Lotito is also named as a defendant. Stephane Farouze, now an executive with Deutsche Bank, seeks $10 million, saying the Bidens and Lotito promised to buy his shares in the hedge fund company but reneged.

Two different business partners are suing them. Fantastic.

Interesting.........Like father like son.........

Makes you wonder what the other short listers had on their rap sheet to have chosen this mess. The Democrats are always good for some scandals.

The fact Michelle can't stand Hillary may come back to haunt this campaign. She was the "no brainer" choice to make.

Politicians in general are good for scandals. You can find them beyond party lines.

It does same something of Biden though that individuals must reach out to scandals not involving Biden to bring up negatives on the Senator himself.

It's in the same lines as "Your dad's an alcoholic so that must mean you are too"

This is just the beginning - stay tuned for the direct shots on Biden. He has some major gaffes to account for all over again.

You're reaching here. If they did infact not like each other it would only mean they wouldn't be seen publicly together when it could be avoided. Nothing more.

Guess who was in Barrack's ear every day (including in Hawaii when he knew he should pick Hillary to have the best chance) on who he should pick? Have you seen the interviews where she talks about Hillary?

They actually are quite similar in vengeance. I guess most women have that streak of scorn one must tip-toe around.

That the "direct shots" will be at his lack of eloquent oratory and not his experience and past/future political stances also speaks to Biden's credibility as a political mind.

Who cares?
Show me a family without scandal.
Besides, how is Biden responsible for what his middle-aged son does?
Or his brother??
Jeb Bush's daughter is a crack fiend, a shoplifter, and a prostitute who's been arrested numerous times.
Does that reflect badly on Jeb? On George?
We can't control what our children get up to once they're grown.
When GW Bush's daughter lived here and attended UT, she was a public menace. Underaged drinking, drunk driving all around town with a Secret Service escort speeding to catch up with her. It was largely covered up.

We all know Biden's from the working class.
We can expect to see stupid, penny-ante, working-class type crimes in his family.
If he were of the elite, we could expect to see large-scale corporate, white collar crime.

He is in bed with credit card companies (see past MBNA scandal, or just let the McCain campaign tell you soon enough). There are a lot of 'em in Delaware and his campaign pocketed a lot of donations from them over the years. He is a Democrat, yet he voted for legislation making it harder (much harder) for a consumer to declare bankruptcy. Are you kidding me? That's gonna leave a mark.

The ad will be:

"So much for hope and change, Joe Biden has been making it hard for low income families to receive relief from debts they can't overcome."

Companies donating to their state's Senate campaign isn't exactly a scandal. You can find Bush receiving millions from Oil companies yet you would never say he's "in bed" with Big Oil?

I'm glad his political party brand didn't stop him from voting a specific way. What's the point of having real people vote if specific parties were only supposed to vote one way on each issue?

Personally it should be hard as hell to declare bankruptcy. It is an out that is used far to liberally in this country.

The Democrats do! That's the game. It doesn't have to be the truth. I'm just laying out how it will play out, not what is morally right.

It's not what you or I think, it's the undecided Hillary voters and some undecided independents. They'll be very interested, as a lot of them are tens of thousands of dollars in debt, and lean Democrat.

The Romney family

I'm sure someone will dredge up something about Romney or his family, if he's the nominee. The point is that this "scandal" being discussed on this thread has nothing to do with Biden himself.

Joe Biden isn't even wealthy, which makes it a lot harder to pin an illicit business deal or two on him, than on your average politician. Upper-middle-class people like Biden simply don't have a lot of business deals to investigate. If I had to name one senator who seemed the most like a "regular person," Joe Biden would definitely be on the short list.

Assuming he's never cheated on his wife, I doubt that we'll see any Biden scandals that can stick. I'm more worried about his gaffes than his scandals.

The fact that you seem honor bound to bring it up here and that it did make the news quite frequently indicates that some people do think it reflects poorly on the family.

You know Biden's father was incredibly wealthy originally, right? He ended up losing all his money through "bad personal and business decisions."

And how exactly is misrepresentation of hedge fund management a "penny-ante, working-class type crime"?

Pretty much every democrat ever has attacked Bush for exactly that. Good for the goose?

Ya but Joe Biden was not raised in incredible wealth. The money was long gone by then.

If Roger Clinton, Neil Bush, and Billy Carter are any indication, I would say that this is good news for Biden!

Yes, my point was just that it's not like he comes from a long line of yokels who are amazed by wealth and should be expected to mismanage this situation. Of course, maybe it should be expected...
