I understand the wisdom of that stance. Putin also undertands a NATO rule that stipulates "No NATO applicant country can be involved in a border dispute." Thus, Putin will tenaciously endeavor to occupy any Ukrainian lands. For the war to end, Zelenskyy says all Ukrainian occupied lands must be liberated. Clearly, Ukraine gaining NATO status will require time, determination, and more sacrifice.

A few personal words to Joe Biden. If you declare - "War Must End Before Ukraine Can Join NATO" - I well understand the calculus involved. That said, you must do your utmost to help Ukraine conclude this brutal war. As I see it, you are not doing all that you can do. Your greatest failing here has always stubbornly been the same: providing Ukraine with better weapons. I realize that you are also trying to hold allies together. But this is not a NATO war. Individual nations supply Ukraine with weapons they can spare, both materially and politically. Polls have shown that by a healthy margin, the American public favors arming Ukraine. The US Congress also supports arming Ukraine with better weapons. But you chronically lag behind the "weapons curve". Your weapon approvals are always many months too late. Is this chronic failing due to your advanced age, or due to an election on the not too distant horizon? I swear, if the Democrats had a viable younger candidate, energetic and tired of rolling with Putin's war crimes in Ukraine, I'd drop you in a hearbeat.

I agree 100%. I believe the US should give Ukraine everything and anything they need so they can win this war. THEN Admit them to NATO. If Russia wants to start more shit; they take on Ukraine and NATO.

The quickest and easiest path for Ukraine to join NATO is to sign a peace treaty with Russia which resolves their border dispute via territorial transfer.

You could say, "OK Russia, it's time to get out of Ukraine." And start sending in NATO forces.

Ukraine must not be given nukes as you imply and never be admitted to NATO

FYI, you will not get a peace deal in Ukraine without guarantees that Ukraine will not be a accepted into NATO
Putin would be a fool to sign otherwise
All countries have legitimate safety concerns.

Putin - a war criminal - has no say in the matter.

Seems like more incentive for Russia to continue the war.

The true Putin motivation here is to install a pro-Russia puppet governmnt, and then steal as much Ukraine territory (via illegal annexations) and resources as is possible.

The invasion didn't transpire as planned. Russia is now neck deep in a deadly quagmire.

Yep. And given that Russia was supposedly fearful of Naro, why would they consider ending their war now? (not that they were considering it, but Biden's statement doesn't help)

Putin won't end the war due to anything Biden says.

The only thing Lt. Col. Putin understands is raw power.

Don't be under the illusion that Russia wouldn't do just that, that's the problem the Anglo American Empire make one miscalculation after another, one day it will be the last.

The Russian military has been emasciated. It couldn't defeat Albania much less the NATO alliance.

How does it feel to have your paymaster rendered a eunuch?

That's what I'm saying - Biden's words only give Russia incentive to continue the war, since being afraid Nato would attack them was their supposed reason for war in the first place.

NATO is a defensive alliance. What you are posting is Kremlin propaganda.

Russia attacked Ukraine on 24 February 2022 for no reasons other than revaunchism and expansionism. An attempt by Putin to begin reconstituting his beloved Soviet empire.

Moscow has already announced the illegal annexation of 4 partially occupied Ukrainian regions - Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.

Crimea is also illegally annexed and occupied by Russia (2014).

If one truly believes in national independence and sovereignty, then Ukraine joining NATO at some future date is up to Ukraine and her people. Not Vladimir Putin.

Putin is the sole reason two more European nations (Sweden and Finland) have recently joined the 32 member NATO alliance.

I know what Nato is, I've never said Ukraine joining Nato is up to Russia - I said Biden is kind of playing into Russia's hands. But we're getting nowhere, so I'm out.

Ukraine will not be admitted to NATO for a long time. The key to being accepted is to tamp down on corruption
and it's a close race to see who is the most corrupt European Nation between Ukraine & Russia. If the war ends tomorrow
Ukraine still has mountains to climb for Nato acceptance!

I don't think the hill is that steep, but it's not going to happen on Zelensky's terms, period. This current war must be DONE before Ukraine will ever be accepted. Bottom line.

Who will Ukraine negotiate a peace with?

It has to be with Putin. Up to this summer the issue of negotiations was always a difficult one because both Ukraine and Russia were fixing for a fight, each confident it can achieve more by way of arms. For Ukraine it came down to its Summer offensive. Not all in the alliance behind Ukraine had been confortable signing up to an everlasting war. They ok with signing on with a winnable war. Ukraine had to show it can win with this offensive. All opinion appears to have ruled the offensive a failure. There will still be support for Ukraine, but more to improve its position at the negotiating table

My question was rhetorical.

That said, this post is spot on.

You never satisfactorily explained how Biden is playing into Moscow's hands.

You seem to believe that Putin needs an external bogeyman to continue the war.

That is an erroneous belief.
