Biden plans immediate flurry of executive orders to reverse Trump policies

Even IF the POTUS could "shut down the country", how would it help? You would still have to keep grocery stores open, the post office, gas stations, etc, not to mention cops, firemen, EMT's, nurses, Dr.s, truck drivers, and so on. The only way to "defeat the virus is to protect the most vulnerable, develop therapeutics and a vaccine as fast as possible. Biden being president won't change that. It's how we defeated smallpox, polio, rubella and many other diseases.

We can institute a policy similar to Australia only allowing 1 hour a day for each person to go outside and implementing a curfew.

Priority #1 should be defeating the virus. We need to institute a complete federal shutdown for 1-3 months to curb the case count. Shut down our country so so we can get back to normal...... eventually.

You can't legislate Mother Nature away .. it's a silly notion to think otherwise.

Regardless of whether or not the Georgia runoffs work out in Democrats' favor, there are still a large number of policies Biden can act on to reverse the damage of the Trump era. What are the executive orders you want Biden to pass in his first month of office?

Ugh. WaPo. From what you posted, this appears to be an opinion piece.

Democrats have forged the blueprint for that. Sue in a dozen courts arguing the EO's are 'arbitrary'.

I'm not trying to be tedious, but, have you considered how the effect of having everybody in the country do their grocery shopping, and other necessary errands at the same hour of day? I believe our country is unique in our amount of freedom, thanks to the checks and balances in our system. The problem with that is, we pay a price for it, like high gun related deaths, car accidents, high addiction rate, and so on.
Kind of off topic, but that is what I fear most about Biden's presidency. Them progressive wing of the democrat party is starting to dominate the narrative, and they make it known, that they want centralized power, and to inflict what should be legislated, by executive order. Biden's a figure head. He says whatever is expedient.
Harris, who will most likely be POTUS sooner rather than later, has already pledged to enact gun control laws by executive order.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/22/us/politics/kamala-harris-gun-control.html
On April 22, 2019 Harris stated that, if elected President, she would give lawmakers in Congress 100 days to pass “reasonable gun safety laws,” during a CNN Town Hall in Manchester, New Hampshire ( here ). “If they fail to do it,” Harris continued, “then I will take executive action.”

He will rejoin the Paris climate accords, according to those close to his campaign and commitments he has made in recent months, and he will reverse President Trump’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization. He will repeal the ban on immigration from many Muslim-majority countries, and he will reinstate the program allowing “dreamers,” who were brought to the United States illegally as children, to remain in the country, according to people familiar with his plans.

America is going back to the Obama era and Biden will pick up where Obama left off. The Biden administration will be like Obama's third term. The Dreamers will get a big break.

Hopefully not. We don't need another decade long recovery.

Whoever the POTUS is, they should put a sunset clause on it, such as, inauguration is January, if congress doesn't come up with legislation giving them a pathway to citizenship by January the next year, than that EO will be rescinded. That forces congress to do something about it, which is the correct way to enact law. The only thing that the "DACA" EO does, is keep 13 million people in limbo.

But this is the same McConnell, making the same noises. He has no reason not to obstruct Biden like he did Obama, especially with the Trump (now GOP) base in a frenzy.

And if he really does walk in with a stack of barely-modified copies of Obama's EOs, he's only really setting back the way things Obama left them. They'll count toward his numbers of EOs, but they aren't meaningfully his. It would just undo some of the Trump damage.
I would find that extremely meaningful. The first & most important thing is to stop the bleeding.

Ohio doesn’t even have special elections, just appointments. There should only be ONE rule for electing federal lawmakers.
You not liking something doesn’t make it unconstitutional. You do know that right.

We also have a new Supreme Court that will read the constitution and determine that when states have the sole right to apportion their own house seats subject only to their legislatures it means exactly that.

beta libs crying about “gerrymandering” or some such nonsense is a dead issue for awhile

I am so glad to see such a traditional conservative level of support for such conservative American values as "rigged elections".

All ‘persons’ are counted for redistricting. The Constitution doesn’t say ‘citizens’.

Not quite. All 'persons' are SUPPOSED TO BE counted for SEAT APPORTIONMENT (not "redistricting"). If you simply don't bother to count great clumps of people, then the seat apportionment takes place as if those people don't exist.

And, if you have control of the legislature, then you can carry out the "redistricting" so that (for example, in a state that has had 25 seats apportioned to it) 2 of the "districts" contain 50% of the population and 90% of the people who would be inclined to vote for "Party A" (AKA "The Other Guys") and the other 23 "districts" contain 50% of the population and where 90% of the people are likely to vote for "Party B" (AKA "Our Guys").

This is known as "Free, Fair, Open, and Honest Elections 'The ***A*M*E*R*I*C*A*N*** Way'".

He has to learn how to use them and keep an eye on the larger target. "Follow Science" won't keep people working, fed or housed.
Have you noticed how that pandemic has almost completely just disappeared from the news. I think should Biden win the election. Much of it will be over.

Rs will win them. Turnout in runoffs is traditionally low.
Not with all the $$ both sides are putting into the race. I guess you're not keeping up with the news. GA is going to be a huge partisan battleground until the first runoff vote is cast. Heck, I might even send the D's some $. Why not, it's only our kid's future?!

Excellent; among those reversals let's hope Trump's irresponsible removal of EPA regulations is one.

Republicans have proven they have no problem shutting down the government. EOs are necessary and the Republicans have no problem halting the government if they don't get their way.

Ditto Democrats, but I guess its ok now.

he has 0 authority to do this. he can try and we can tell him to stick it up his ass.

ps the shut down was a failure.
what biden should do is get the vaccine out there.
The shutdown was only a failure for two reasons; one, it was prematurely lifted under political pressure and, two, the libertarian refusenik idiots with their stupid arrogance and incessant whining about 'liberty' ran around, maskless, infecting anyone they ran into. Trump's offhand dismissal and admitted downplaying of a deadly pandemic, and refusing to act responsibly and lead by example, didn't help either.

We've had a competent response all along, Vern. That's why Biden essentially plagarized Trump's actions in his plan.
The only competent responses I saw were from Birx and Fauci, until Trump decided that not playing by his rules (kissing arse), meant they had to go, only to be replaced by someone completely unqualified in the relevant fields of virology and epidemiology, but who would do Trump's bidding, unquestioningly. Atlas.

No it was a failure because it was never going to work to begin with.
Taking a script out of one of edgar allan poe's books shows that it doesn't work.

that is why it was a failure.

It won't disappear from the news-- the argument will be different. The objective will be to 'manage' the spread; lockdown will be referred to as 'Trump era' policies.

The help Biden out, Trump should sign a flurry of EOs. The more the better. What he should not sign is any stimulus deal.

Do you have any idea how Biden intends to defeat the virus? I heard him make the comment about shutting down the virus but have not seen any specifics.

This is the same guy that was in office during H1N1 that saw 60 million Americans(CDC numbers) become infected.

We have flu season every year. If it is even possible to eliminate the flu virus, why has it not been done?
I am not saying what the President has done is correct or not but shutting down the country is NOT the way to go.

Currently 79% of all deaths are people over 65 years old.
Protect the elderly and let the rest of the country get back to life.
