i was going to put this under gun control -but it's a much wider issues. (more Biden wild eyed hysteria hating guns and.bow??)

This prohibition applies to all ESEA funds," a Department of Education spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "The prohibition went into effect immediately on June 25, 2022 and applies to all existing and future awards under all ESEA programs, including [21st Century Community Learning Centers]. The Department is administering the bipartisan law as written by Congress."

n June 2022, the BSCA was passed with large majorities in the House and Senate before Biden signed it into law. The push to pass the bill — which broadly seeks to promote "safer, more inclusive and positive" school environments, according to the Education Department — came after mass shootings at a grocery market in Buffalo, New York, and a school in Uvalde, Texas.

The legislation included an amendment to an ESEA subsection listing prohibited uses for federal school funding. That amendment prohibits ESEA funds from helping provide any person with a dangerous weapon or to provide "training in the use of a dangerous weapon."

However, in a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona earlier this month, Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Thom Tillis, R-N.C., expressed concern that the agency is misinterpreting the provision which they said was included in the BSCA last year to withhold education funds for programs training school resource officers, not to preclude funding for hunting and archery classes. School resource officer training was funded under a separate provision.

In addition, other GOP lawmakers have since blasted the Biden administration over its interpretation of the BSCA.

Hunting and pro-Second Amendment groups like Safari Club International, National Shooting Sports Foundation, International Order of T. Roosevelt and National Rifle Association also criticized the Education Department.

"This is a direct attack on our outdoor heritage and America's ability to educate the next generation of sportsmen," the International Order of T. Roosevelt tweeted.

The silver lining to this is that if you don’t take the Federal government’s money then you don’t have to play by the Federal government’s rules.

According to the article, the passed amendment prohibits ESEA funds from helping provide any person with a dangerous weapon or to provide "training in the use of a dangerous weapon."

GOP is choosing to interpret this as "was included in the BSCA last year to withhold education funds for programs training school resource officers, not to preclude funding for hunting and archery classes"

Huh?

So, according to Fox News and GOP Senators, it's ok to withhold funds if school wants to train a school resource officer (i.e. sworn law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools) on using guns but not ok if it's training elementary / secondary school students?!

What?!?!

So the Biden Administration should not follow the law in this case? Is that what is being asked for?

Isn't the House Oversight Committee investigating Biden right now because they think he may have broken the law?

I wish you guys would make up your mind...

So, if a kid brings a gun, rifle, or bow to school, he had better be enrolled in these courses. Otherwise the resource officer may need to shoot him.

So Biden is to blame for the wording of the law? From your cite...

"Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell championed the legislation and said it "will help make these horrifying incidents less likely while fully upholding the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens."

The words in the law matter. It's impossible to enforce 'what was meant'.

bureaucracies always interpret the "plain 4 corners" of the text,,always..
I do agree Congress is usually responsible for these bad ideas (archery being banned?)
because they always make these long winded bills for compromises that lead to wildly different interpretation
Much of what both sides blame on the other guy's POTUS is because Congress writes crappy legislation as a norm

Archery isn't banned. Neither are guns. Federal funding is being withheld. Very different things.

The states are free to fund their own programs.

Looks like you wasted good anger chasing windmills.

A bit odd, but we have con Congresspersons voting against bills that help their constituents, and then praise it in their home states like they helped it along. That's even more odd, wouldn't you say?

Biden loses bigly on this one

The House voted late Tuesday evening in favor of legislation striking down the Biden administration's decision to block federal funding for school shooting sports courses.

In a 424-1 vote, the House approved the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act with 216 Republicans and 208 Democrats voting in favor, and just one lawmaker, Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, voting against. Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., introduced the bill on Aug. 1, days after a Fox News Digital report in late July revealed the Department of Education was withholding funds for school hunting and archery courses.
