When I listed all the news sites I go to such as NPR, BBC, Reuters, and Associated Press as well as other news sites like ABC, NBC, CBS, and Yahoo.
The reply was you literally just listed all left leaning MSM sources. Literally...every...single...one
Back before Trump's "Fake News" watching the morning news at breakfast before work or school, midday news at lunch or evening news at dinner time was trusted.
This is what communist countries do by suppressing news that is unfavorable to them and watch only news that lines up with what they want shown
Sadly some Trump supporters don't see that they are being brainwashed to follow the party line.
Bias is literally in the eye of the beholder. As well, if you start off with the premises the media is bias when you do not agree with the conclusions its stories may make then you see bias of course.
In traditional history and journalism, an historian or journalist was only supposed to report what they saw-not make conclusions as to the motives behind it.
That ended when we had world wars as the media were taught to shape the meaning and message of reporting back war to bolster morale.
As wars and conflicts became more prevalent, so did the people offering theories for the behaviour creating the conflicts and today our media does not simply report what it sees, it tells you what you MUST SEE and BELIEVE using a story or event as the platform to get across this MUST SEE and BELIEVE message which is in fact editorialization.
So today in the academic world we have "new" historians" that remove events from their actual context to provide motives and opinions as to certain things they believe the event is indicative of and journalists don't just report they throw in their subjective analysis.
This is why its so hard to differentiate what happened from the messenger telling you what are the motives behind what happened.
In the case of Trump followers they bought into Hitlerian tactics first perfected by German film makers and then Joseph Goebels where the media and images were used to stage and shape events to suit specific narratives and that is what Trump did. Like most narcissists he needs the media to reflect his own image and nothing but his own image and the extension of his image are his beliefs. Anyone who disagrees with him, is wrong and comes up with false conclusions.
There is an irony here. You have Trump getting elected claiming he was the anti-media and the "truth". Yet in 4 years, he substantiated over 20,000 falsehoods on public media and culminated his term in office presenting an allegation with NO PROOF. To this day on this foru, Trump supporters require no proof of what he has claimed. As long as he said something, it must be true to them. So if you repeat what he said, it has to be true.
When history looks back and reviews the cause and effects and behaviour Trump triggered they will learn yet again how easy it is to manipulate and control people's expectations and behaviour by simply appealing to their anger, things they hate, things they feel they have no control over and claiming you will eradicate such things.
I also agree with you that what Trump did is what any non democratic leader does-repress debate and that is classic of all totalitarian regimes, facist and communist or unfortunately with many people today who have no idea what ideology they are but are frightened of a world they see as threatening and in need of a messiah to tame.
