Bernie talks population control through abortion.

Only those with PhDs in math or science should be allowed to reproduce, lol.

Actually this is what Bernie said, per the article:

READYOFF: Good evening. Human population growth has more than doubled in the past 50 years. The planet cannot sustain this growth. I realize this is a poisonous topic for politicians, but it’s crucial to face. Empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth seems a reasonable campaign to enact. Would you be courageous enough to discuss this issue and make it a key feature of a plan to address climate catastrophe?

SANDERS: Well, Martha, the answer is yes. And the answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions.

And the Mexico City agreement, which denies American aid to those organizations around the world that are — that allow women to have abortions or even get involved in birth control, to me is totally absurd. So I think, especially in poor countries around the world where women do not necessarily want to have large numbers of babies, and where they can have the opportunity through birth control to control the number of kids they have, it’s something I very, very strongly support.

He didn't say abortion-as-birth control. He said an agreement denying aid to organizations that help with pregnancy prevention and, yes, abortion, is ridiculous.

As always, a Trumpist lies about a target on "the left" for cheap political points and to virtue-signal dishonesty to his fellow Trumpists. It's "just joking" when Trump says something awful. And if someone on the left says something, well, it's perfectly fine to lie about it.

I'm not really much of a pro-lifer but man, this seems like it could go very wrong to me.
C'mon Bernie...Birth control? WTF?

He didn't advocate abortion as birth control. You lied.

(I also doubt you actually read WaPo. I think the more likely story is that you read some hit piece by RW rag media which linked to the WaPo article, and you figured you'd try to make your post look more credible by citing WaPo article it linked to rather than the RW rag piece. Right? Oh well, it's beside the point: Bernie didn't advocate abortion as birth control. You lied. )

Did you read your own link?

OP article said:
Sanders did invoke abortion in his answer, but only in accurately describing what the Mexico City policy does. He also nodded generally to the idea that American women “have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions” as a key principal. But when describing specifically how he would support combating global population growth, Sanders only mentioned birth control. People may infer things from the fact that he invoked “reproductive decisions” in his answer, but he never said he thinks the United States should support abortion for population control.

Ahh, now that would explain it...

I guess you didn't read the actual article because even the article said right wingers were distorting what he said. Thanks for that elderly moment Grandpappy. :lamo

Ya, well it was from the Washington Compost, and the question was population control, and Sanders did say "allow women to have abortions or even get involved in birth control".

Although I'm sure there are some very fine people on both sides.

Most pro-abortion advocates do use it as BC....for convenience.

Looks like we've got another one who thinks his tribalism makes it OK to lie about the left.

:sigh:

WCH, I know getting caught passing off a lie is nothing new to you, but here we go again. Bernie did not say what your Trumpist buddy falsely claimed:

What a shocker.

That has pretty much been the inception of PP since the beginning.

^^
Another one whose tribalism apparently compels him to echo any lie told about a target on the left.

Bernie: climate change ... overpopulation ... abortions

The communist has spoken.

There's no distortion. Read the woman's question VERY carefully and then read Bernie's answer, which was "YES".

Wrong. The thrust of the question was using abortion NOT as a means of BIRTH CONTROL, but as POPULATION CONTROL.

Read: TO CURB POPULATION.

So, what populations do you think that affects? White American women? No...

How about poor black and brown women in 3rd-world countries. Yes...

What a shocker.

If they’re not smearing and lying about Warren and Biden, they’re doing it to Sanders. It’s what they do. Non-trump voters must stick together and resist trashing each other.

Americans have long expected this from the party of Nixon and Atwater. They really are numb to it. There are no more Eisenhower’s in the GOP.

Yep; subject was Climate Change - bullet point was Overpopulation - Bernie's answer was Abortion

Overpopulation does not quite apply to the USA ... (grin)

He didn't say abortion-as-birth control.

Sure he does... in fact, that is exactly what he says ... there is nothing wrong with it either...

Well, yes, there is a theoretical limit to the number of humans the planet and its resources can sustain.

The thing of it is that due to human innovation that limit keeps getting raised.

A small band of hunter gatherers needs a lot of land area to support themselves, as there are limits as to how fast their prey can reproduce which feed them.

With the advent of agriculture, less land area could more easily support more humans. Further innovation and technological developments by humans keep increasing the population density that is supportable by a given land area to the point where we now have mega cities that now that house millions of people.

Is there any indication that this human innovation has plateaued? I'm inclined to think not.

The US Government should not be subsidizing the grave moral evil of abortion here or abroad.

There is no environmental crisis requiring population control, the simple fact is, anyone using this rhetoric like Bernie is only a compliant congress away from forced abortions and a one child policy, communists like him never change their minds or moderate their positions
