:shrug: it depends on her job, what she wants to do with her own life, and her employer. I agree that it is good for babies for mom to be able to stay home, as you were able to do. But you were able to do that partly because your employer doesn't face market pressure. Mandating that all employers pretend that market pressure isn't real isn't going to suddenly make market pressure go away. It's going to force employers to find work-arounds, and one of the ways they will work around it is by discriminating against women in hiring.

The tax credit is available for family leave for any company that gives their employees family leave:
•Adaptable to all employee arrangements, including part-time work.
•Available for new parents; caretakers of sick parents, spouses, and children; employees with serious illnesses; and military families.
•Based on the Strong Families Act, introduced by Senators Deb Fischer (R-NE) and Angus King (I-ME).
Wait - Are you saying that we should design public policy so as to refuse to help working mothers if a private company doesn't also help gay adoptions?
