Yes. You are right. Here's an example of a different way of thinking. My former stepdaughter graduated high school two years ago. A few months before graduation she started working at Waffle House as a hostess then later as a server. She worked hard, made a lot of money. The owner had her covering shifts at two stores. She graduated high school and started college. While she made good money in tips, her rate did not go up and the managers wouldn't be flexible on her scheduling. She easily landed a job at Wild Wings Cafe. It paid better and tips were better. After being there for a year, she had a discussion about rate and scheduling, her school schedule changed. When the manager told her that he couldn't raise her rate, she began looking for a new job. Quickly landed one at a much better restaurant chain that not only gave her flexible scheduling but paid 10% of her school, sounds like a tiny amount, right? But it beats zero. She's making much more in tips, her actual wage is higher. Wild Wings manager offered to bring her back still at the same rate but with more flexible scheduling. It wasn't happening. She's moved up since then.
The government didn't have to step in and make the restaurants pay her more, she earned it by proving that she's an excellent employee. If they call her and she is available she covers extra shifts. Last Friday and Saturday she worked 20 hours in two days, yes, she's in overtime, but the tips are where is at.
There are two ways to make more money. You can bust your tail and you will make more or they will lose you to someone who will pay more... Or you can put forth a minimal effort and vote Democrat hoping they increase the minimum wage.
