Tax Reform Angst on the Left

Liberals compare the tax bill to the Fugitive Slave Act, using terms like "corrupt", "budget busting", and "cruel".

So it must be a really good bill.

Liberals regard any effort to reduce the amount of money that is being taken from producers and given to their non-productive friends as "cruel" and evil, hence the comparison to the Fugitive Slave Act, because it was, you know, evil. Other than being evil, and Republicans voting for it even thought they had to know it's evil, there's no connection. Because boosting the economy by cutting taxes and regulations? That's just nonsense.

How dare those two opinion writers voice their opinions. And we all know that two opinion writers equal "liberals" and "the left".

Guess what? Many of us on the right who are not liberals also know this bill is terrible. It does nothing for most middle class Americans, and it does nothing to "simplify" the tax code.

Corporations are posting record profits, year over year. Unemployment is at a decades-low. Stock market is at record highs. Trump brags about this daily. Why does the economy need to be "boosted" exactly?

Great article pointing out the hysteria of the left with what ever Trump does! And then they tell them selves lies about it as well. Obama and the Federal agencies like BLM have been on a land grab for years now. BLM is loaded with partisan who only care about the environment.. It is high time to clean out the partisan left wingers out of our Government. The deep state are those...

It’s the entitlement mentality. Leftists feel they are entitled to your labor just like the Democrat slaver holders back in the day. Leftists regard the American taxpayers as a big cow udder in which to draw upon whenever they feel damn good and ready. BO did it for eight years and essentially drove many into poverty. Now that BO’s boot is no longer on the throat of America, the American people can get back to work.

Tax cuts that only benefit the rich and adds trillions to the national debt. Why on earth do you think that's a good thing??

You've summed it up perfectly. The left hates the tax cuts because they believe it is evil to let people keep their money. You're oversimplified opinion has, against all odds, hit the nail on the head. What would we do without you and your daily dose of hyperpartisan garbage?

This is a very good question which I would like conservatives to answer.

So wait. The low unemployment rate is really a lie? You need to tell President Trump that. He keeps taking credit for it. But according to you, people aren't back at work.

I'm sorry Obama drove you into poverty. You should have tried to get a job. The Republicans have controlled Congress for the last 8 years and actually worked hard to make sure that people who didn't want to act like victims were able to get ahead. You should have considered capitalizing on those opportunities then. Many others did. That's why the unemployment rate began plummeting after 2009.

You and me both. But I'll settle for Trump Republicans answering that question, since they are the ones who are most anxious to see this mess pass.

I particularly like this budget busting argument, as if its wasn't already busted. Without the tax bill, the deficit will still be 600 billion next year. Whats another 100bn at this point? Especially when its 100bn that will be in the hand of the people who earned it, rather than govt. That said, there is plenty wrong with this bill, mainly that it doesn't go far enough in achieving real reform. Its still too many taxes, rates, and 'loopholes' and exempts too many people from contributing to the funding of security and justice.

Im not conservative, but the answer is pretty obvious. The economy can always be better. Corporations can always make more profit, stocks can always go higher. Most americans own shares in corporations, and why send trillions overseas to foreign corporations, when they could remain here? Then you have the debt, which will only be paid off by more taxes and less spending. Both which can be less harmful the greater the economic base and the more wealth in peoples pockets. And hey, more profit for corps means more taxes for govt to redistribute.

The Regime stopped counting unemployed people who quit looking for jobs. During the BO years we had record numbers on welfare/food stamps/etc. Many went into poverty thanks to leftists and their quest for control over every day people's lives. The economy is doing great, two quarters of 3% growth, stock market gain of 5000, first time in American history. America is coming along nicely which is bad for the left and great for normal working people and their families.

The economy is doing great, according to you. So then why do the corporations need a tax break? It sounds perfect as it is.

“The producers.” Oh, boy.

How does this plan onlyy benefit the rich? From what I've read and heard pretty much all of the middle class will see a reduction in their tax burden. That reduction will also help small businesses as the business owners will have less tax to pay. Larger corporations that pay the corporate tax rate will definitely see a benefit, and hopefully that will lead to more businesses establishing or expanding facilities in the US rather than overseas.

Increased deficit spending is certainly a concern, but that should be addressed by reduced spending. Won't be, but it should.

It's not a perfect plan, but it's a good start.

Why are leftists so dead set against people keeping money they earned? Invest your money in those evil corporations and make a little extra for yourself, stop whining and complaining and take advance of an opportunity. There's nothing wrong with your own personal slice of prosperity and success. You may add some happiness to your life instead of constant misery and angst.

What's hilarious is watching these leftist whinge about big business but then can't wait to blow their money on the latest Iphone, big screen plasma TV, or new car. :)

I have no idea. You have to ask a leftist that question.

I invest in corporations. We have stock holdings and two 401Ks. Since the crash 10 years ago, they have returned to their values pre-2007 and have increased dramatically over the last 9 years or so as the market began coming back and unemployment began to plummet.

So again, why do corporations need a tax break if the economy is so great?

LOL, yeah.

Why do you think corporations need a tax break? Why complain when they do, is it hurting you personally? Are you losing out on something?

Don't forget the disability claims that soared during the Obama years after they lowered the bar for people to qualify. They stopped counting all of them too. The bad joke during those years is if you had a hangnail you can get disability. Social Security disability is one of the worst programs riddled with fraud. It's a shame because there are those deserving and to further protect it for them the fraud needs to be dealt with.

One of the hardest hit groups under Obama were small businesses. We had a record number close due to burdening regulations. Small businesses are the bread and butter of our economy. The Trump administration has slashed these regulations significantly. Between getting rid of jobs killing regulations and the decrease in tax rates for businesses, corporations, and personal, the market has responded quite favorably. I also read this month our GDP is up to 4%. It's all good.

I don't think corporations need a tax break right now. You do. We disagree. I think working Americans need a tax break.

I didn't say that anything is hurting me personally. Just like the ACA didn't hurt me personally.

One more time (maybe you'll answer). If corporations are posting record profits (a fact), the stock market is at a record level (a fact), and unemployment is at a decades low (a fact), why the need to cut corporate tax rates permanently, and extend individual tax rate cuts only temporarily?

All this outrage over the tax bill isn't showing up in numbers on Capitol Hill. Pelosi was suppose to hold a rally against the tax bill but just a handful of people showed up and she was a no show.

Getting people hooked on gov't handouts is a classic leftist approach to further their ultimate goal of complete socialism. And then the left shells out just enough money to keep them alive and then tells them the evil GOP'ers will take their "benefits" away and make them eat Alpo.

Tax breaks leave more money for corporations to reinvest, hire more people, and produce more and improved goods/services.

Just because it doesn't do what you want it to and has no effect on you doesn't make it terrible.
