I thought I'd share some simple numbers to put things into perspective about what's going on right now. You can quibble with my premises if you want, but it probably won't make a big difference regarding my point:

Premise 1: On average, a person infected with Covid is able to infect others for about a week.
Premise 2: For every person who tests positive for Covid, there are about 5 who get infected but never know they were infected.

In the last week, nearly 1.2 million people have tested positive for Covid-19. Assuming that my premises are correct, that means there are close to 6 million people in the US walking around who can infect others and don't know it. You might be one of them. That's about 1 in every 55 people. That means that if you go to Costco to get that delicious and absurdly inexpensive roasted chicken, there are probably 4 or 5 people in there with you who are infected, can infect you, and don't know it. And again, you might be one of them.

So be a hero. Take a break from arguing over abortion, whether systemic racism is real, or whether it's better to carry your CCW with a round chambered or not. Spend 10 minutes and order some masks from Amazon (or your favorite non-big brother online retailer).

Be a hero, and wear a mask. The worse thing that could happen is that you will have worn a mask for nothing. Just like Halloween.

Where I live you can't go into stores without a mask. Isn't that true everywhere?

Only in places that have sense. There are a number of states without mask mandates, , oh, it is a matter of observation they are places with the highest infection rates.

Where did you get that? Or are we supposed to have blind faith in your statements?

It seems important to many Democrats to live in constant terror at all times. Why is that?

You are far more likely to die of a heart attack or cancer than covid-19 regardless of your age. Have you given up ALL foods with bad cholesterol? Certainly you chastise obese people you see eating fatty foods and rage at parents with obese children - don't you?

Don't you think governors and mayors, if not the president, should order people stop engaging in any practices that increase the chance of dying of a heart attack, cancer, COPD, clearly dangerous activities, excessive driving as matters of public health? The life you might kill driving when not an absolute necessity many not be your own, etc?

Stop talking about why Trump should concede. Spend 10 minutes and order a face shield from an online safety equipment supply company whose masks are of true medical grade. Unless you are a Democrat, you should not buy a cheap face shield from Jeff Bezos.

Where did you buy your face shield from that you always wear? Or do did you opt to wear goggles when in public instead?

No, not here. Over half the national chain stores do and a few of the local stores. No gas stations do. Grocery store does. Bowling alley doesn't.

I'm not a Democrat.

Face shields don't protect other people from your virus-laden spittle as well as facemasks do.

So you don't really care about covid-19. Just admit it.

The fact that you want to obsess about stupid nonsense and red herrings doesn't mean I don't are about it.

A face shield or googles reduces the risk to others and yourself - and risk to yourself also is then risk to others. You don't wear a face shield despite the risk is increased is because you don't want to and haven't been ordered to. Summary: You do what you do because you are ordered to. You did not make the decision yourself. You're just following orders - and refused to do any more on your own.

I'm doing what is recommended by people who know WTF they are talking about, and who recognize that there's a balance between effectiveness and convenience. I'm certainly not taking advice from selfish a-holes on the internet with an axe to grind.
