Source? According to the OMB, DoD spending in 2005 was 20% of spending.

And when you add in required spending....
1990
And this year.....
Please post sources if your going to quote graphs. Unless you are the one who made these.
Thats called cherry picking to try and make your point. He pulled that chart by examining discretionary spending only.
Demand is up faster. World oil production is 89 mb/d. Demand is 91mb/d. That equals shortage and prices go up.
Exactly why our increased production doesn't lower world oil prices, that was my point. Drill baby drill, is just a conservative campaign slogan. The US hasn't produced as much oil as it consumes since 1971, and now the world is approaching that same point.
That's why beginning to transition now to alternatives will be so important to our future economy, and it can be a source of jobs so this helps on several fronts.
That makes no sense. MORE production would lower prices one you had a surplus of oil. And it doesnt stop you from also pursuing other energy. Thats is the conservative plan. All energy, as much as you can get, in a free market.

I honestly didn't know if he understood that with the way he pushes alternative fuels. Nice to see for a change. Not a big fan of the tax credits for any energy source, but making available places to get them makes sense.
seeing how we have trillions in debt there shouldn't be any tax credits regardless of the company.

That's just it, we don't have a surplus of cheap oil. The US hasn't produced as much oil as it consumes since 1971. With the world demand growing faster than new cheap supplies of oil, the price keeps increasing. It has been increasing since the 70's. Its why our highest oil production in a decade now, has not lowered world oil prices one bit, at least as far as I can tell. How about you? Have you noticed gas prices going down due to our increased production?
We just covered this. Demand is up. I fail to see how less oil would make gas prices go down. What is you reason for why we should produce more oil?
World demand, except for depressed activity due to the world recession, has been increasing for the last 40 years. Despite our increased production, oil prices continue to go up.
Which is why we should produce MORE. Actually, we should produce more because it would create jobs, wealth, and energy. And its the right of the citizens who own the resources to use them as they see fit. I have yet to see you explain why not.
I agree with the idea that your suggesting but alternatively we should be putting the resources it would take to produce more oil into reducing our dependency on oil.
If you mean govt resources (spending), then I think those should be cut, period. Oil companies and alternative energy companies can spend their own money on whatever they want. Get the govt out of the way.
You will never get an agreement for this attitude from a liberal. They NEED gas and oil prices to increase. It makes their favorite alternative energy scheme that much more attractive. Heck, even Obama says so.
We all need oil and gas prices to reflect the true cost of using that fuel. Right now, your oil consumption is being artificially subsidized by your grandchildren's generation.

Do you have some magic oil beans that you wish to try? The fact is we have used up most of the cheap oil in the US. That is why we fight middle east wars to keep their oil flowing to the world market.
There has not been a single year since 1971 that we have produced as much oil as we consume, regardless of which party was in control of the government.
As Cheney and the Energy Task Force put it in their report, STRATEGIC ENERGY POLICY CHALLENGES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY when they recommended invasion of Iraq:
"Dependence is so incredibly large, and growing so inexorably, that national autonomy is simply
not a viable goal. In the global economy, it may not even be a desirable one."
The government should be using its money to encourage alternative energy spending. Considering some of the wasted money out there now, i dont see any reason why it isnt a perfectly reasonable idea. Oil is far more destructive to the environment than the alternatives.
