It appears another state's citizenry will be under the thumb of the National Guard, even while there's yet to be any violence, nor has a demonstration even occurred.

The National Guard now seems to be getting deployed "in anticipation".

We have been hearing for a few years now if only Trump had deployed the DC National Guard on Jan 6 in "anticipation" of rioting, it could have made all difference.

Not a surprise, this guy is almost as corrupt and morally defunct as Trump. But at least it's the governor calling for it.

Really wish the Paint Eaters weren't in charge.

I can't speak to your assertions

But I can say I tried to present the topic of my thread as factually as possible, including using excerpts and linking the relevant article.

Abbott appears to be claiming he's deploying the National Guard prophylactically.

I wasn't even aware that could be done? To send the Military, where a problem does not exist?

I wouldn't doubt if Trump amplifies Abbott's actions via social media, before the day's end.

Trump didn’t want to prevent what happened that day. He wanted to instigate it and he did. He had no business holding a rally against the legal and peaceful transfer of power as he left office. He should not have called for this gathering nor encouraged it at all. So that is why it would never occur to him to use the national guard, even after things got out of control. He got off on it. It is and always has been all about him in his insecure and insular world that he inhabits.

Oh MAGA commies are well interested in the use of military force against protest and dissent. This is not unknown.
 
Abbott is part and parcel of the Trump cult and its need to intimidate political opponents or pretty much anyone whose speech they feel offended by. They are spineless and self serving and don’t like it when certain constitutional rights are exercised that offend their sensitive souls.

If he had wanted to stop it you mean? Certainly after the protests broke in to the Capitol.

Deploying the National Guard has proactively has occurred before.

Did you see Trump threatened - "will be met with heavy force" - if anyone protests his Birthday Parade?

I'm not happy the org organizing the Saturday protests is not protesting in D.C., saying they want to "provide contrast".

Lawful protest is the hinge-pin of American Democracy. They should have called Trump's hand on this, bringing it home to him and laying it at his feat.

I don't see any way Trump could win the politics of busting peaceful protestors in the Nation's Capital.

In fact, I might start a poll on this - as much as I hate starting polls.

Just imagine if the powers that be, including Nancy Pelosi, had done that before January 6th. We could have avoided a lot of problems. But it would have been “bad optics,” and possibly led to “escalation.” 😉

Personally, I think it’s a good idea. Anarcho-socialist crazies will be out in full force on “No King’s Day.” Arresting anyone tossing a pebble would be perfectly fine with me, because these people never plan on peaceably doing anything.

Yeah, but without request or permission of the mayors of the targeted cities.

I'd bet my bottom dollar Abbott will be sending the troops to the cities, Democratic Electorate cities.

When searching through articles before selecting the Axios article for my OP, it seems Abbott's main target will be Austin.

Austin of course is the State's Democratic Party stronghold, with a Democratic Mayor, and a strong Democrat Electorate, including a large contingent of Democratic Party voting students at U of T, whom the Governor & State Legislature despise voting in TX Elections.

The problem seems to be rioting in opposition to the enforcement of federal law.
Its a problem. If there was no additional security would that reduce or enhance the possibility of riots?
