From a Swedish leftwing perspective, I think this can be some of the solution to increased automation-
First that the profit from automation not only goes to company owners and high earners but instead also to the low- and middle income earners. Because low- and middle income earners spend a larger percent of the earnings and therefor can through consumption spur job growth in other sector. That low- and middle income earners in Sweden have got real wage increases the last couple of decades thanks to collective agreements between unions and employers' organization.
Also if low- and middle income earners get higher hourly wages they can maybe be able to work less hours. That leads to more people can have a job that at the same time people having a job have more free time enjoying life. In Sweden we know have trials there it even is profitable for employers even then the employees keep the same salaries.

Also it is important with training and education so people can be able to get the new jobs automation leads to.
Also taxes are important that the increase of productivity can also lead to increase in taxes. To increase both government services that both can be good for the individual and society as a whole. For example, that Sweden through free universities can get more young people to attend higher education that get more and more important with automation. That at the same time you increase completion and the change of getting the best and brightest in the most prestigious and advanced education then the size of parents’ wallets is less of a factor.
