Australia plans to ban asylum seekers from ever visiting

About as far from Obama policies as you can get! And damned smart...


CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia on Sunday announced plans to ratchet up its tough policy against refugees by banning any asylum seeker who attempts to reach its shores by boat from ever visiting the country.

A previous government introduced a policy on July 19, 2013, banning refugees who arrive by boat from Indonesian ports after that date from ever being resettled in Australia.

Under legislation to be introduced to Parliament next week, thousands of asylum seekers who have returned to their homelands in the Middle East, Africa and Asia would be banned for life from ever traveling to Australia as tourists, to do business or as an Australian's spouse, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said.

My father, who was half Aussie and who was a boundary rider for some years, was of the considered opinion that what spoilt Australia was white Australians and their racist BS.

Australia now bans anyone with an arrest or other criminal record from travelling to the country and illegal immigrants had already broken the immigration law. Given the nation's history, Australia is very sensitive about any criminals entering the country, especially illegal immigrants.

All potential migrants to Australia under the Skilled Migration route, or temporary migrants on a working holiday, must have their character assessed as part of the visa grant process. Applicants must declare it if they have a criminal record, however minor and regardless of how long ago they incurred it.

The onus is on the applicant to prove they are of good character, an applicant can fail the test if:

they have a substantial criminal record;
they have, or have had, an association with an individual, group or organisation suspected of having been, or being, involved in criminal conduct;
having regard to the person's past and present criminal conduct, the person is found not to be of good character, and;
having regard to the person's past and present general conduct, the person is found to be not of good character;
there is a significant risk that the person will engage in criminal conduct in Australia, harass, molest, intimidate or stalk another person in Australia, vilify a segment of the Australian community, or incite discord in the Australian community or in a segment of that community, or represent a danger to the Australian community or a segment of that community.

Yes, they'd hate the new criminals to compete with the ones that've been there since the country's founding by the whites.

Australia only has 23 million people, yet they have the 12th largest economy in the world. Those awful white people must be good for something right? Like creating prosperous countries around the world that less prosperous non-whites all wish to move to.

You are obviously unaware of Australia's history. Feel free to do a little research.

What is it that is most important? It is people, it is people!

Something tells me people that desperate don't give a damn about future vacation plans.

Racism still exists in Australia, but to paint with such a wide brush is inaccurate.

This seems a little odd to me - most people seeking asylum aren't exactly flush with cash and frequent vacationers or business travelers. Who, exactly, would be affected by this new law? I'm pretty sure the Donald Trump types in Indonesia aren't hopping on a raft and floating the ocean when wanting to make some business deals in Australia.

To put a bit of a twist on this, I've always felt it would be wise and also fair if my government here in Canada refused reentry of any refugee seeking asylum in Canada who then turns around and returns to their homeland on vacation. It displays a false narrative of imminent danger in one's home country if they come to Canada and claim they are in physical danger at home and wish to seek safety in Canada but then are just dandy fine traveling back "home" to visit friends and family and tell them all about what great suckers Canadians are. And to top it off, many of these same refugees then rush to the Canadian embassy in their "home" country if trouble starts brewing while they're there on vacation. It happened most recently when thousands of Syrians, who sought refuge in Canada but went "home" on vacation, scrambled to get Canada to evacuate them when trouble erupted there.

Why not give us some facts instead of waving in the direction of...matter of fact, just what in hell ARE you waving in the direction of anyhow?

truthatallcost spoke of the fact that Australia with its very limited populace [ranked 52nd in the world], nevertheless is ranked 12th in the world with its GDP. The overwhelming majority of its citizens achieving that high standard vs its population are, as he stated, of European ancestry, 60%.

Not a racist remark, just the fact of the matter.
