Athletes Support Transgender Athletes

But even then I didn't know how far I wanted to go. Still don't really.

This one is easy, at least in theory. You go as far as you need to to end the GD, and any other related issues, as much as you can. You might not know now whether it means surgery in the future or not, but surgery is the response, not the evaluation. Take all the time you need and stop when you feel ready, not when someone else tells you. Not always easy in practice though.

Found this just now, and it was too on topic not to share. Naysayers in 3....2.....1.....

Ironically, they have a psychological advantage, at least currently. I read a study not too long ago, where they did a mixed chess tournament, and divided into two styles. Face to face, and via a computer screen. They found that women performed much better against other women face to face than against men, but when the woman didn't know whether her opponent was a man or woman, she typically did equally well against both.

Doesn't surprise me, most of the "advantages" are psychological, not physical in any sport really.

I do think that most of the objection is against competitive sports, such as for pay or scholarship, or similar. While most probably don't have issue with transgenders playing for the sake of playing where the teams are mixed, too many opponents can't get their mind out of the paradigm of all sports being competitive in the way I described.

I don't disagree and I think that's a serious problem with sports in general. We're so focused on the idea that sports are competitive do or die events we forget sports are really just about having fun.

That is a good attitude to have. Thank you!

Not an athlete by any means, but I am a former soldier and a gym rat and I support everyone's right to compete and play sports.

Gonna use this opportunity to shamelessly post a gym selfie in this thread to both encourage myself and others. Healthy body, healthy mind.

How do they feel about transgenders comoeting against females.

Or do you mean transgenders and you're yet another one of those who deny being a transphobe while exhibiting the transphobe characteristic of misgendering them?

Misgendering is not transphobic any more than you calling me a chick is heterophobic.

.

The hormones and other drugs that are part of their transition negate that advantage over the space of a year.
No they don’t.
Why lie about such an easily disproven claim.

You are only discrediting yourself.

Wow. Pretending like most of the difference between males and females when it comes to sports is psychological is so far divorced from reality it almost makes me think you are trolling and just trying to make transgender people look bad.

I spoke with a transphobe who was openly a transphobe about this topic once. I asked him point blank as an athlete what's the ratio for mental/physical when it comes to sports. He said 80% mental, 20% physical. I don't know many athletes who wouldn't say something similar.

Well I mean you made up a story about talking to some random person. What a convincing argument.

That you think it is a mental aspect that makes the worlds fastest remake 100 meter time being beat by many many highschool boys is hilarious.
It shows a complete disconnect from reality.

I recall the women's pro soccer team get 0 points while 14 year old boys won 15 points.
