When drug takers who are addicts give up drugs then all they do is take up a new addiction to compensate. In this case religion. All this is is just another junkie with a drug called religion. And just as much a waste of time and space.
Interesting take. But the dopamine reward of religious belief is relatively mild. I think the fear of being damned works together with the fear of relapsing. The ex-addict needs another reason, to satisfy their mind which never fully recovers from drug addiction. There's also the high likelihood that they're not as smart as they were before addiction, and need easy answers to the hard questions.
