CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Astronomers have discovered what may be the brightest object in the universe, a quasar with a black hole at its heart growing so fast that it swallows the equivalent of a sun a day.

The record-breaking quasar shines 500 trillion times brighter than our sun. The black hole powering this distant quasar is more than 17 billion times more immense than our sun, an Australian-led team reported Monday in the journal Nature Astronomy.

While the quasar resembles a mere dot in images, scientists envision a ferocious place.

Sounds intriguing but let's not go there next.

Good thing it's twelve billion light years away.

Consider the source. This is just more Fake News by the AP. First, the term "Quasar" hasn't been used since the 1980s. They are called "active galactic nucleus" (AGN). Quasar was the term created by radio astronomers during the 1960s who had no clue what they actually discovered. So they named it a "quasi-stellar" object, or Quasar for short. When astronomers finally figured out what Quasars where they dropped the Quasar label and adopted AGN instead. That was over 30 years ago.

The fact that the AP still uses the term Quasar 30+ years after astronomers changed the name, combined with the fact that the AP provides no source for their information, tells me that this story is entirely fabricated.
