  • The NYPD is investigating the attack as a possible hate crime, the latest in a string of bias-fuelled attacks against Asian victims in the city

  • The victim, 31, was taken to hospital and is in stable condition with cuts to her head

A possible hate crime?

No. This a bizarro 'Merka. It's the opposite of what it should be. A lot of this crap is a result of pandemic stress & Trump's pumping up China Virus. Trump can be added to the list of murderers for not acting decisively at the start of the pandemic. He had fired the pandemic warning staff that Obama had set up. Trump lacked the technical & organizational ability to head off the worst of the pandemic & save hundreds of thousands of lives. So blame a big part of this on Trump's childish ineptitude.

The Senate passed a hate-crimes bill last week that gives grants to states and localities for more reporting on incidents and orders a Justice Department review. The vote was 94-1. But that bipartisan vote obscures a sharp partisan difference on anti-Asian bias laid bare as Democrats defeated a Republican amendment to stop discrimination in higher education.
The GOP amendment was a single sentence. It said no college “may receive any Federal funding if the institution has a policy in place or engages in a practice that discriminates against Asian Americans in recruitment, applicant review, or admissions.”

All Republicans voted for the amendment, which was sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. Democrats voted it down, 49-48.

Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono said on the floor that the amendment was “a transparent and cynical attack on longstanding admission policies that serve to increase diversity.” She means elite college policies that have been challenged in court by Asian-American students for penalizing them in admissions.

I do not think Trump turned anyone racist. His Trumpists felt that he gave them permission to be openly racist. He whipped them up. It's what he does. Identify ugliness, stir it, and then try to aim it at his enemies.

The harm is broader than just his Trumpists. Once the message of blaming Chinese for COVID's existence got around, even racists who do not like Trump felt emboldened (whether we're talking about the CT about lab-creation, or the more general blaming of them simply because it originated there). The spike in violence against Asians directly correlated with all that anti-China rhetoric, and there simply is no other correlating factor that makes any sense as a cause.

But what I mean when I say 'Merka is that this was always here.

What sort of non-racist person would become racist because they hear anti-China rants related to COVID, then go attack an Asian person? Doesn't happen.

I think an awful lot of what has passes for improvement is just racists having the self-awareness to be careful about whom they show themselves to, not an actual decrease in racism.

Where are all those guys with a full tank of testosterone just waiting to kick someone's ass and this time would be called a hero.

I used to know guys like that in their 30's who would jump in someone's face if they felt they were giving a waitress or clerk a bad time.

This horrible. This is on trump.

Thanks. Interesting to get the reaction of anyone who is a declared 'very conservative' when he sees the first hand results of his Fearless Leader.

Strange, I don't see a lot of people running around hitting Russian people over the head with hammers.

I'm kind of disappointed there was no a description of the attacker mentioned in the article. I wonder why that was? Anyway here is another article with a description of the attacker. Not someone typically associated with supporting Trump or listening to his message.

I can't find a story about this on CNN, so I'm guessing it's fake news.

I love how we hear that the assailant was wearing black pants and a black shirt.... but no mention of their race.

Although the attacker could be white and a member of Antifa, but Joe says they don’t exist.

Maybe Asians should start forming Falange type organizations to carry out retaliation against people who attack them since obviously the city will just allow criminals to roam the streets attacking them. Geez where are the triads in this?
